This popped up in my memories today.. It’s amazing how different life can be in just 4 years. I remember this picture and my vibe when Tim Garnica took it.. Yesterday was definitely one of the most meaningful and surreal moments of my life! I’ve officially graduated from the Rio Hondo Fire Academy as a California State Firefighter! It was the most difficult four months of my life and by far one of the greatest experiences! When I was 2 years old I was in a near fatal car accident on the 91 freeway. I was ejected from the Jeep we were driving in, then crushed by it. An off duty firefighter by the name of Tom Spencer was in ...the traffic that the accident caused and saw no emergency vehicles so he decided to take matters into his own hands. Upon assessing my father he was informed by a passerby that there was a baby under the vehicle so with the help of others he pulled me from the wreckage and started to resuscitate my mangled body. I had a fractured collar bone, my head was crushed and brain swollen, my skin was soaked in gasoline and I was in a coma for 3 days after. I wasn’t supposed to make it through the first night. But I did. This savior stayed in touch with me and my family for a little while and I last saw him at my 3rd birthday. My Mom with the help of others arranged for the greatest surprise gift I’ve ever been given. Tom Spencer was in attendance unbeknownst to me and met me on stage to hand me my graduation certificate! He is the epitome of what a firefighter stands for and just a genuine human being. It was truly an honor and I’m still in awe at the whole experience. Tom Spencer is the reason I’ve wanted to be a firefighter my whole life and continues to be my inspiration. I believe it is in God’s will for me and I plan to fulfill it. I couldn’t think of a better way to graduate than the way I did yesterday! Oh, and the fact that ABC news featured my story last night made it that much better!
