Misgendering occurs when someone refers to another person (usually a transgender or non-binary person) using a word, especially a pronoun, that does not accurately reflect the gender identity of that person. Sometimes, people misgender trans and non-binary folx in an effort to be hurtful; but, most of the time, this happens unintentionally. When you hear someone use incorrect pronouns to refer to another person, normalize correcting them. Avoid allowing acts of misgendering to go unchecked because this can negatively impact the victim and perpetuate further acts of misgendering. #pronounpractice #pronouns #genderpronouns #transgender #nonbinary #allyship

Today, approximately 25% of self-identified LGBTQ+ youth report using neutral pronouns and, according to the 2020 National Survey on LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health by The Trevor Project, people whose preferred pronouns were respected by all or most people in their lives attempted suicide at half the rate of those who did not have their pronouns respected.
