One of the easiest ways to start investigating potential careers and paths is to start conversations with family members and friends about what they do, why they choose that profession, and what path they took to get there. It’s a great way to begin getting an idea of what might be out there. Start a conversation and ask questions! You’ll be amazed at what you learn, and it will help you avoid boring-small talk around the holidays. #MarchForward

Happy Monday, March friends! This quote of the week is from Kat's book, "Put College to Work." In this particular section, Kat walks you through recognizing your skills to apply them to your major and career goals.... We've included a sneak peek of the Your Skills chapter of "Put College to Work." To get your own copy, visit our website at mymarchconsulting.com/putcollegetoworktimeline We hope you have a great week and continue to #MarchForward "Your skills are what you’re able to do, what you’re capable of doing, and what you really excel at doing. They go hand in hand with your strengths, naturally. You’re probably used to seeing skills listed in job descriptions. When you’re deciding what major or career path to choose, you want to concentrate first on your strengths, and then your skills. You’ll be surprised at what skills you can mold into different categories. For example, let’s say you’re really good at making friends. That doesn’t seem like a skill that would be listed on a job description. However, when you dig a little deeper, you can probably see that you’re good at making friends because you are good with people. Why are you good with people? Because you know how to make everyone feel at ease. Now that’s a skill a lot of businesses would want; they would love to have an employee who can instantly put customers at ease and listen to their needs. Now that you can relate your strength (making friends) to a skill (being good with people), you can mention this skill in your interview, especially if the job has to do with customer contact or customer service."

There is no such thing as the right major for students interested in pursuing medicine. While students are inclined to believe they must have a Bachelors in Biology to apply to med school, the truth is that medical schools consider applicants from any discipline. A student who majored in Psychology may stand out against other applicants for that very reason, and a student who majored in Latin Literature will be better prepared to make sense of the medical terminology based... in the same language. Students who are interested in attending medical school upon completion of their bachelors should pick a major that interests them enough to be intellectually curious and academically successful. In the end, it’s not about the school or major you choose for your bachelors degree but what you do while getting your degree to prepare for medical school that makes the difference. #MarchForward See more

Seniors 1.Any applications with December deadlines should be in ASAP. Get these in so that you can relax and enjoy the holiday season. ... 2.Check to make sure each university received all application materials. Is there a missing letter of recommendation? Did all of the technology in the submission process work? Better check now just to be safe. 3.Check new university emails or student portals. Once a student submits an application, many schools provide that student with an online portal with updates about the admissions process and future deadlines. Log in now to make sure it works. 4.Hunt for scholarships. If your student hasn’t started searching for scholarships, December is a great time to do so. Submit as many scholarship applications as possible to ensure your student sees results. (If you are a client, our December scholarship list was sent out last week!!) If you have any application questions or concerns, please let us know! #MarchForward #seniors #classof2021 See more
