Closing unused credit card accounts may sound like a good idea, but it could hurt your credit score because of increased utilization and, eventually, shorter credit history.Your credit score is calculated based on five different factors. Two of those factors are directly affected by your unused credit cards, and those are: Length of credit history... Credit utilization ratio Length of credit history is basically how long you've been using credit cards, and it makes up 15% of your FICO score. More specifically, it's influenced by the age of your oldest account (the older the better), the age of your newest account (again, older is better), and the average age of all your accounts combined. For those with more in their file, the impact may not be as great. What it all boils down to is that a hard inquiry is an indicator of uncertainty, which equates to a possible increase in risk for a lender. The weather is feeling pretty "fall-y" today!!! I'm loving it! Coming into fall, and holiday season, I'm wondering what people are planning for Halloween? Probably won't be a traditional Halloween with trick or treating (if you do that), but its my favorite holiday, and I'm curious what people will be doing?! Drop your plans or ideas below!

If you're consistent in overseeing, there should be no surprises when your favorite mortgage lender runs your credit to get you prequalified to buy a home. *Day Two* ****Twelve Days of Credit Tips**** When you're making a payment, pay more than just the minimum payment. Minimum payments are low because it allows the consumer to carry more debt. The credit card companies make their money from the interest you pay on your debt. So, if you're carrying a high balance, and only making minimum payment, it is likely that that minimum payment is going to interest only, and nothing to principle.
