Honor your loved ones on Veterans Day, the Northern California Veterans Cemetery will be open to visitors. However, out of an abundance of caution due to the ongoing pandemic, the Cemetery will not hold an event on the grounds this year. We hope to return to in-person observances for Veterans Day in 2022. We wish you a happy Veterans Day and honor all those who served. #VeteransDay #VeteransDay2021 #Veterans #ThankYouForYourService #ThankAVet

The U.S. war in Afghanistan began on October 7, 2001. Since then, 2,448 American men and women soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen were killed in action ...over the course of nearly 20 years of constant battle. Countless others were wounded by the conflict and carry scars some visible, others that may never be seen. We have seen fathers and mothers deploy to only hand over the fight to their children. It will go down as the longest conflict in American history. As we watch the collapse of the Afghanistan government, please remember that you did what you were assigned to do, to protect America, your brothers and sisters to your left and right, and you did it with honor. Many of you did everything within your powers to train the Afghans to defend themselves and protect their freedoms. You taught them how to fight. If you served there, the current situation is probably gut wrenching to watch. If you didn’t deploy to Afghanistan but know others who did, please check on them. For those currently in harm’s way, we’re thinking about you and pray for your safe return. We fought for what? Well, for 20 years we have not had a repeat of the attacks we faced on September 11, 2001. That was the reason we went there. We forced a determined enemy to stay in hiding for 20 years, waiting for our withdrawal. What you did there your sacrifice matters to us here at CalVet. You demonstrated unforgettable heroism in an unforgettable war. We are there for you in every way within our means as you return to civilian life or as you continue to build upon your life back home. Without a doubt, the half-hour long rides in the open-cockpit Stearman provided pure bliss for all eight of the veterans who reside at CalVet’s Veterans Homes of California-Yountville.
