A recent conversation with a horse professional friend, and re-reading one of my favorite horse books, "For the Good of the Horse" has sparked this post. Over the years I have had the privilege of the services of excellent horse health practitioners. But it isn't always easy to find the right skilled professional for your horse's care. This is a list of things I consider when choosing or working with a veterinarian, farrier, body worker, or chiropractor. "How to vet your Vet ...(or farrier, body worker, chiropractor)" 1. They handle your horse patiently, gently and confidently. 2. They are willing to watch your horse be ridden to further their understanding and evaluation of what you, as the rider, are experiencing. 3. They look at the horse in all 3 gaits in both directions, if evaluating movement or lameness. 4. If diagnostic images (xrays, ultrasound) are utilized, they take the time to point out and explain in detail their findings. (Whether you can see what they are pointing out or not!) 5. If they disagree with what you see or feel, they are never dismissive. Instead, they explain why they disagree, and support it with evidence they can show you. 6. If you want a second opinion, they encourage it. 7. They have mentors and/or colleagues that they can consult with on tricky cases. 8. If they don't know, they say "I don't know." And are willing to be a team to find the answer. 9. They come up with a plan A, B, C for treatment/medication and explain the merits/downsides of each. 10. They are involved in continuing education.

Here is the recording of my latest talk with Michael Lingenfelter if you missed it live this morning. Some great exercises to help you balance your hip angle!

Here's the recording of the talk Michael and I gave last week on lower leg position. I'm having so much fun with this collaboration, learning a lot, and sharing our knowledge with riders everywhere.
