If your transmission overheats and/or you smell a strong burning odor, chances are that your fluid cooler lines are clogged. Another common cause of this type of issue is a faulty oil pump.

We recommend that you check your automatic transmission fluid regularly to make sure your transmission is in good working order. If your fluid is a cherry red color, it is clean. If it is brown, it is burnt and needs to be replaced.

What does the transmission oil pump do? This pump produces the oil pressure necessary to operate the transmission, and pressure is produced whenever the engine is running. Sufficient quantities of the right type of transmission fluid are needed to produce the right amount of pressure.
