EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: All observatory events, including outreach and Visitor Nights, are cancelled until further notice. This includes at a minimum the March and April Visitor Nights.
Due to rain and clouds, tonight’s Visitor Night is cancelled. Our last opportunity before summer break is June 7th.
Tonight's Visitor Night is CANCELLED due to clouds. We will try again on April 12th!
Tonight's Visitor Night (Jan. 20) has been canceled due to clouds. If the clouds happen to clear a bit, you can still try to view the eclipse from just outside your front door. No special locations or equipment are needed to view a lunar eclipse. See the Events tab on our webpage for the approximate times of the eclipse.
Tonight's Open House is canceled (unfortunately) due to poor weather conditions.

The Murillo Family Observatory has set the dates for this academic year’s Visitor Nights. You can find them (and any cancellations) on our events page: https://www.csusb.edu/observatory/events-calendar The first one of the year will be this Friday, assuming this hurricane remnant leaves our skies in time. Gates open at 7:30 pm, please see instructions on how to get to the observatory, where to park, and what to bring on our webpage.
It is the second Friday of the month, and sadly, once again our Open House plans are thwarted by weather. It is currently overcast and misting in San Bernardino and the forecasts indicate this is unlikely to change much before this evening. Our next attempt to hold an Open House will be on Friday, June 8
Unfortunately our streak of bad luck continues. While the sky is clear, the winds at the Observatory are gusting at unsafe levels (small children could be knocked over and telescopes will be difficult to point), so once again we are forced to cancel our public viewing night. Let's hope for better weather on the second Friday of May!
We are very sad to report that the haze preceding the storm that is on its way to the Inland Empire for tomorrow is so thick that we will not be able to see any stars with our telescopes after dark. Since this haze is only predicted to get worse, not better, we are cancelling tonights public viewing. Let's hope for clear skies on April 13th so we can invite you all up in April!
Due to the incoming rain, tonight's Visitor Night is cancelled. We will try again on Friday, Feb. 9th!
Our Winter and Spring Visitor Nights dates have been updated on our webpage. We continue with the second Friday night of each month, unless they conflict with other events. This month we delayed due to the first week of classes (and to try and avoid some bad weather). We are set for this Friday, Jan. 19, but the weather outlook does not look good again. Typical for winter weather in our area.
The forecast says the skies will be continuing to clear this afternoon - which means tonight’s Open House at the Murillo Family Observatory is a GO! The gates will be open at 6pm, and our students will have several telescopes set up for viewing the skies. As parking is very limited atop Little Badger Hill we ask that only families with small children or visitors with mobility issues use that lot. We request that everyone else enjoy the warm evening and walk up the hill from Lot N. See our webpage for directions or more information: https://www.csusb.edu/observatory/events-calendar
