Holiday cooking is just around the corner! Be sure to properly dispose of your cooking Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) to help prevent your sewer pipes from clogging. Always pour cooled FOG into disposable containers and throw them away in the trash, and wipe residual grease from dishes before washing.
Fall is here! Leaves in streets and storm drains add higher than normal nutrients and lower than normal oxygen to water bodies, negatively affecting the ecosystem. Leaves blocking storm drains are also a leading cause of localized flooding during rain events. Always rake leaves and place them in yard waste... containers, or compost. See more
On May 12, MVSD’s District Biologist assisted International Bird Rescue release a rehabilitated American White Pelican in McNabney Marsh. The pelican was brought to the facility entangled in fishing Line. X-rays revealed it also sustained injuries from a pellet gun. The pelican received significant damage to its flight feathers, rendering it unable to fly until its next molt. To help it fly sooner, Bird Rescue’s veterinarian replaced the damaged feathers with feathers from a... deceased pelican in a process called imping. Although the injured bird was in care for 81 days, the procedure was ultimately successful; after taking a quick look around McNabney Marsh, the former patient took its first strong and steady flight shortly after leaving its transport crate. This is the seventh pelican release at McNabney Marsh since 2015. MVSD is grateful to Bird Rescue for its efforts on behalf of injured birds, and we are delighted to support their mission by providing a haven for rescued and rehabilitated wildlife. See more

Large containers can be dropped off by appointment only please call (925) 228-5635 x 25. Do not leave sharps containers on the ground.
Water from pools, spas and fountains should never be drained into the storm drain. This will pollute creeks, the Delta and the Bay with copper, chlorine, sediments and other contaminants. Storm drains flow directly into our local waterways without receiving treatment to remove any pollutants. Pools, spas and fountains should only be discharged into the sanitary sewer. However, even partially draining your spa could overflow your sewer line, causing a sewer back up onto your property. Before you discharge into your sewer line, please contact MVSD at (925) 228-5635 x10 for a free discharge permit.
