Part of the significance of National Coming Out Day is revealing what the process of coming out can look like - the good and the bad. For many young people in the LGBTQ+ community, exposure to mentors and elders in the community has been limited, if not absent altogether. How can one feel comfortable and ready to do something that requires so much courage and is imbued with such uncertainty if they haven’t been able to observe anyone else do it before them? The telling of ou...r coming out stories is not only empowering and liberating for the storyteller; it illustrates the possibility of life beyond coming out to those who haven’t gone through the process. It allows for realistic expectations, preparation, and most importantly hope. Coming out is not a single, individual experience. Coming out its not always possible or safe. Coming out is not always everyone’s intention. Wherever you are with your own experience or journey with the coming out process, we invite you to join us as we hold the Coming Out Monologues - a place to come together and share our stories, listen, give and receive support, and find community. Members of the Mt. SAC LGBTQ+ community will have the opportunity to briefly share their coming out story, whatever it may look like. Wednesday, October 14th at 1:00pm Register at bit.ly/NCOMonologueReg We ask that allies practice allyship by helping us to create space for the stories. Please join us in support and solidarity. Students, Staff, Faculty - all are welcome!
