Ms. Avancena is a graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara. Ms Avancena is one of our math instructors teaching both Procedural Integrated Math and Integrated Math II. Ms. Avancena is known around campus for her amazing sense of humor and impressive organizational skills. Those organizational skills come in handy when she's doing her other job of being a WEDDING PLANNER! She is a positive light on campus and really embodies all of our core values but especially tha...t of being a STEM thinker! Ms. Avancena encourages all of her students and celebrates the growth of ALL of her students! Ms. Avancena is an adventurous teacher who loves to snowboard, rock climb, and travel! She is also multilingual speaking English, Spanish, and Tagalog (Filipino)! We are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing teacher!! Thank you for all you do Ms. Avancena. For the next couple of months we will be highlighting some of STEM Prep's amazing educators. This week we'd like to introduce you to Ms. Ali Heffner! Ms. Heffner, a graduate of both UCLA and University of Pennsylvania, is all about being an Agent of Change. Ms. Heffner teaches English and makes it one of the most engaging, creative, and rigorous classes you will take at MSCP. Her course work includes projects that ask students to dive into text for deep analysis. Students are... charged with looking at novels from multiple perspectives and seeing the work with new lenses. Ms. Heffner can usually be found around MSCP, wearing her sunglasses on top of her head, and taking on a new project to help her students! This year she's started a book club with her students that dove into life's important questions, like.. what House from Hogwarts do you belong to? She's also taken on a Donor's Choose project to get her class a great library to instill a love of reading that will last her students a lifetime.
