The 6th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival, hosted by Mountain Area Preservation, during Earth Month, was another successful virtual event, celebrating the environment and activism! This year’s festival was supported by 25 Sponsors, 300 households, and 750 viewers participating in the virtual festival. Festival supporters enjoyed 13 family-friendly films, and Earth Day messages from some of our 2021 Sponsors. The virtual auction was supported by 41 local Truckee-Tahoe busines...ses who donated a variety of goods and services to help support MAP’s fundraising efforts with the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. Collectively, through Sponsorship, Ticket Sales, and the Virtual Auction, MAP raised $30,000 to support our mission and work! Thank you again, to our 2021 Sponsors, Auction Donors, and MAP Supporters who participated in the virtual event, we look forward to bringing back Wild & Scenic in 2022 as part of our Earth Day celebrations! #WildAndScenicFilmFestival #WhereActivismGetsInspired #WSFFTruckeeTahoe #WSFF2021#Tahoe #Truckee

It may not be wildfire preparedness month any more, but it's always important to brush up on your fire safety knowledge, especially during summer time in Tahoe. Wildfire will always be a concern in mountain regions, but there are actions we can take to help prevent or mitigate fire devastation. One major step we can take is to prevent sprawling development into the Wildland Urban Interface, also known as the WUI. Martis Valley West would be a terrible example of sprawling dev...elopment into the WUI. It would be located in a high-severity fire danger zone on top of Brockway Summit, with steep slopes and rugged terrain, making it an extremely difficult to evacuate the Lake Tahoe Basin, during a wildfire. Visit ProtectOurMountains.org to sign our petition and support our legal campaign to stop this dangerous development! #savetahoe #protectourmountains #martisvalleywest #Tahoe #Truckee #protectopenspace #environmentaladvocacy See more

Part of the Truckee 2040 General Plan Update includes the analysis of 11 sites for increased housing density within Truckee’s town limits. These sites were identified in 2019 and the Senate Bill 2 grant funding is being utilized to evaluate these sites for increased housing density. The initial analysis will be presented to the Truckee Town Council TONIGHT, Tuesday, May 25th. The sites being evaluated for increased density to accommodate future housing are High-Altitude Fitne...ss, RPL in Armstrong Tract, Gateway near Safeway, Residences at Jibboom in Historic Downtown Truckee, Tahoe- Truckee Lumber, Gray’s Crossing Church Cottages, Gray’s Crossing Lot F Golf Course, Gray’s Crossing Lot D Highway, Joerger Ranch Phase III, Riverview Corp Yard, and the Former California Highway Patrol site. We believe that any site that is considered for upzoning, needs to create evident public benefit by ensuring future housing serves the local workforce, not just increasing the density and value of a private property. While each site has different characteristics and constraints, this is an important factor in determining what sites should receive this community benefit for Truckee. Review the Staff Report for Item 7.2 at www.TownofTruckee.com. Public comment will be accepted by email to [email protected] until one hour prior to the start of the meeting and text or voice message at (530) 428-6555 on any item on the agenda until the Mayor closes public comment on each item. Weigh in tonight on upzone housing sites and let the Truckee Town Council know your local land use knowledge, your voice matters! #LandUseAdvocacy #HousingForThePeople #Truckee #WorkforceHousing #GetInvolved

SPRAWL HARMS US ALL. The Martis Valley West development will destroy 662 acres of pristine forest and build a massive gated subdivision with 760 units + 6.6 acres of commercial on Brockway Summit. This project will negatively impact every resident in the Tahoe-Truckee region. Learn why MAP is fighting this ridgeline development proposal. Help us Protect Our Mountains you can make a difference! Please go to ProtectOurMountains.org sign the petition and contribute to our campaign. #SaveTahoe #MVWMondays #ProtectOpenSpace #Tahoe #Truckee #EnvironmentalAdvocacy

The 120 acre parcel in North Lake Tahoe, known as the Brockway Campground proposal was purchased by the United States Forest Service (USFS). The acquisition of this parcel is important for the watershed, recreational refuge for the Tahoe Rim Trail, and public safety for wildfire. The campground proposal for 500 sites + commercial amenities was put on hold during the public process for Martis Valley West in 2016, which is still under litigation by MAP, Sierra Watch and the Lea...gue to Save Lake Tahoe. By advocating for open space and the protection of this land more than 3,000 Save Tahoe supporters helped support this effort! A huge thank you to the California Tahoe Conservancy for stewarding this important acquisition and the USFS for purchasing this landscape for present and future generations of Tahoe-Truckee to enjoy!
