Happy Pilates Day!! As we celebrate the wonderful method of Joseph Pilates, I find myself reflecting on how Pilates has impacted my life. Pilates has helped me find purpose. ... At a time in my life when I was looking at what career options were out there for me, I found Pilates was a way to bridge my love of dance and movement with my love of anatomy and helping others. Many years later, my health tanked and I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease; teaching Pilates helped me get out of bed every day, and helped to keep my mind and body focused on healing and helping others instead of focusing on how terrible I felt. Pilates has given me freedom of movement. As I continue to heal, I still struggle with the amount my body can handle on any given day. Moving my body always makes me feel better and I love that Pilates can meet me where I am at, whether I need gentle movement or a good butt kicking! Pilates has given me community. Throughout my years of practicing and teaching Pilates, I have met some amazing people, both teachers and clients. I have been so blessed to have my studio here in Morgan Hill now for 5 years. The best part of my day is seeing my clients come together to work hard and make their lives betterthe fact that I can help facilitate that is amazing, and I am so grateful! How has Pilates impacted your life?! Tell me in the comments below!! @ Morgan Hill Pilates

31st in the classical order Repeat 6x. Caution with spinal or neck injuries, no recommended. Crab is another exercise I didn't give much attention to. However, it has its place in the series. Its challenging to roll up over your legs and onto the head with support and control. I'm still working on this one!... Tips: - hold chin to chest the whole time - pull knees towards your shoulders as you rock back to upright - when rolling forward onto your head, pul up on your abdominals and press spine towards to ceiling to help support the forward bend position.

33rd in the classical series Repeat 6x. Caution with spine and neck disk injuries. Not recommended. Control balance is just that...control and balance. It combines inversion, spinal flexion, and hip extension, which results in amazing stretch while also challenging your core as you pull one leg in opposition of the other. ... Tips: - balance on shoulders, neck and head - reach legs in opposition - reach top leg up towards the ceiling while reaching into hip extension - keep knees straight and toes pointed

32nd in the classical order Repeat 5x This exercise comes at the end for a reason! After you have completed the previous 31 exercises, you spine should be warmed up and mobile, prepared for the DEEP stretching and control the the rocking provides. I love this exercise for the back extension and hip, shoulder and chest opening...BUT the rocking is challenging! It really forces you to connect the whole body with your breath. ... Start with my modification to feel the lift and support of the back bend and work up to the classical version. Tips: - press feet into hands, and allow the shoulder to be stretched - reach toes up, using gluts to lift the thighs off the floor - pull chest forward in opposition of the foot pressing into hands - inhale to rock forward, exhale to rock back

Doing a few intentional movements and focusing on breath can help to calm the mind, release tension, and improve your mood! Here are some of my favorites! Give them a try and let me know what you think! Looking for more detailed instruction on these movements, check out my YouTube videos... link in bio. Enjoy!! ... 1. Supine Twist - inhale to send knees to the side, exhale to bring back to center 2. Figure 4 hip stretch - keep your tail bone pushing into the floor to deepen the hip stretch 3. Mermaid - inhale to bend side, exhale to return to sitting. 4. Swan - inhale to press up only as high as is comfortable and exhale to lower 5. Childs pose - just breathe! 6. Inner thigh stretch - inhale to rock back, exhale to rock forward 7. Hip flexor/psoas stretch- inhale into abdominals to expand diaphragm and increase the stretch 8. Hamstring stretch - keep a flat back and inhale to hinge forward, exhale to stand. #pilates #morganhill #mh_pilates #stretch #moveyourbody

Let me introduce myself...I'm Julianne, owner and instructor at Morgan Hill Pilates. I am a wife, and mother to a wonderful, funny and bright 6 year old boy. My career in Pilates started in 2009. Growing up a dancer, I had developed a passion for movement early on in my life. What drew me to this method of teaching was its accessibility to people of all ages and abilities as well as its foundation in how we move to help people prevent injury and/or recover from injury, all t...hings I have experienced and benefited from first hand. Teaching pilates is my purpose and my passion. I truly love learning about the body and sharing my knowledge with others to help improve their lives. Seeing clients progress as well as the confidence they gain through knowing how to move is so rewarding and motivating! I have been running Morgan Hill Pilates since April 2016. Since then we have added people, teachers, and equipment, but most importantly we've built a community of people who are willing to show up consistently, work hard, have fun and support each other. I'm so grateful to be a part of this community that supports, motivates, and challenges me to be my best! I only hope that my efforts do the same in return. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life and share in your journey towards a healthier you! Can’t wait to get back into the studio, but until then, see you on zoom! @ Morgan Hill Pilates
