I taught last week in Davis, CA and got a lot of questions from my students about what I'm doing to keep myself and my clients safe in my practice and I just wanted to take a second to share our Covid Resources for Bodyworkers page (https://bit.ly/3AeBuC2) Personally, I have started re-implementing some procedures from Fall 2020 in response to the Omicron Variant such as more time between sessions, wearing N95 or KN95 masks rather than cloth masks, and getting tested every ot...her week. On our Covid Resources for Bodyworkers page, we’ve collected links to the products for your practice that can be helpful in reducing the likelihood of transmission of Covid 19 such as masks, cleaning supplies, testing kits, table covers, and much more. In the video above, I show you how I am using some of these products in my practice. We have also gathered some helpful links to information from the CDC regarding particular guidelines and updates about Covid, as well! Just wanted to share this with you all in case any of you are looking for some guidance on how to adapt their practice to help keep everyone safe! P.S.- If you did purchase an air purifier for your practice as a response to COVID, please make sure you're switching out or cleaning the filter at the recommended intervals. A dirty air purifier doesn't do the work you need it to!

It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day today and as I do every year, I took some time to visit his words directly to honor him. This year I read the speech, The Other America given by MLK Jr. at Stanford University on April 14, 1967. This speech was a particularly heartbreaking one to read. So many of the truths and barriers to progress detailed in this speech are still so real even 54 years later. Excluding the discussions of Vietnam, it almost feels as if the speech was written ...recently. Truly, when walking down the streets in San Francisco, I can see these disparities illustrated every day in sometimes the starkest and most poignantly painful of ways. I know life is a little wild these days for all of us and the thought of taking time to educate yourself on such a weighty topic might not seem even possible. However, I want to drive home the point that MLK so eloquently makes in this speech with the quote in the above graphic. All of our successes, failures, progress, regress, etc are tied together. In these times of struggle, we must rely on one another to find strength and our ability to overcome is dependent on our ability to unite. Take care of yourselves out there folks. I want to end on a promising note so I will leave you with this final quote from Martin Luther King Jr. 's speech: We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about opportunities to learn the Morales Method in-person and I wanted to share with you the two classes we have coming up this month at Massage Therapy Institute MTI, Davis in Davis, California. Body Mechanics Friday, January 14th from 9am-6pm Come learn how to perform Deep Tissue manual therapy with more ease and efficiency. We will begin by learning a concept that is rarely taught in body mechanics education, the mind-body connection.... We will also cover the physiological, psychological, and cultural aspects of body mechanics; awareness exercises to understand the Newtonian aspects of body mechanics; and effective, efficient, and safe body mechanic techniques for standing and seated manual therapy. This workshop is ideal for manual therapists at all levels of expertise, body structure, and abilities. Advanced Trigger Point Saturday 1/15- Sunday 1/16 from 9am-6pm both days Using a Structural Integration perspective on fascia, this class combines classic Trigger Point Therapy with Morales Method Concepts of Palpation to create an improved state of listening resulting in an efficient, effective, and unique approach to addressing trigger points. After this workshop, practitioners will have the skillset necessary to palpate and work trigger points using the Morales Method Concepts of Palpation. They will also know what it feels like when a trigger point resolves and which Trigger Points to work for common complaints and injuries encountered by bodyworkers. Both of these workshops are filled with valuable skills and perspectives for both new and seasoned manual therapists. We are so excited to get back to interacting with you all in person and we can't wait to see you in our workshops this year! Check out our workshop schedule here: https://www.moralesmethod.com/schedule

Another Christmas is here! For some of us, it’s a Christmas filled with joy, surrounded by family and loved ones. For others, it’s a holiday season having to deal with covid restrictions, the loss of loved ones, or being overworked and away from family. However you slice it, it’s another ‘weird’ Christmas. This is why I feel it’s important to take a moment and reach out to someone who may not be able to be with family this holiday season. Sometimes a quick video chat or tex...t is enough to make someone’s day. Sometimes a phone call will suffice. You don’t have to be a cheerleader, you just have to be there in some way. I’m so grateful for the small but tight group of friends and family I have. I’m never without someone who’s saying hi, checking in, or has a funny story to tell. I’m grateful for you all and to everyone I want to say, Merry Christmas, you are all in my thoughts!

The last leg of the holiday season is here, folks. How are we doing? The holiday season seems so busy this year so today I just wanted to share two exercises that can help with grounding! The first is from our Manual Therapy for the Pelvic Floor Online Class that isn’t actually intended for grounding but can be really helpful to get yourself back in your body when you feel a little overwhelmed. 1. Sit on your hands and feel your ischial tuberosities with your fingertips... 2. Move medially to feel the space between the two bones 3. Slowly contract the area, feeling the pelvic floor muscles engage 4. Play with your breath and notice what happens to your pelvic floor when you utilize your diaphragm. You will feel your pelvic floor respond to the actions of your diaphragm! The second is one I often teach in my Body Mechanics classes. 1. Stand up and give yourself a little space around you to move 2. Place your feet at hip-width 3. Begin leaning as far as you can in a given direction without falling (make sure to do your best imitation of Michael Jackson from Smooth Criminal ) 4. Explore all directions, feeling your feet supporting you and their connection to the ground beneath you Both of these exercises just take a minute or two to do. Try them out and see how you feel! Alright, folks, I hope those are helpful for you as you have an amazing holiday week. Also, make sure to mark your calendars for our end-of-the-year sale coming up in the last week of December! We will be putting all of our Online CEU courses on sale!!

As we mentioned last week, our MMASI 10-Series: Level 2 Course is now available (https://bit.ly/3wcyiEi)! We're so excited to have this course for y'all and we wanted to take some time to let you know all the other educational SI material we have to offer you! All of our online Structural Integration courses are a part of our hybrid online Morales Method Academy of Structural Integration program. These online courses alone, do not cover the entirety of what is covered in the... comprehensive 580-hr MMASI program (https://bit.ly/358fRo0). However, they are amazing sneak peeks into what the world of SI has to offer you as a practitioner. It’s rare that SI programs choose to offer up their content like this, but it was important to us to not make this content so exclusive like many of our peers. We wanted to give you the ability to access it without having to commit to the full 580-hours without being sure it’s right for you. So, if you have been curious about SI, but you haven’t known where to start, we’ve got some great jumping-off points for you: 1. Our blog/YouTube- we write a lot about the world of SI, so if you are looking for some free info right off the bat, check out our SI playlist on YouTube (https://bit.ly/2TVlfZy) and our SI tag on our blog (https://bit.ly/3cufbxy)! 2. Structural Integration Theory & Gait Assessment Online Course ($69) https://bit.ly/3cuAZcd- This is an introductory course for the Morales Method Academy of SI. In this course, you will learn about the nuts and bolts that create the foundation upon which MMASI sits. You will also learn how we approach and utilize gait analysis in our work! This is the BEST place to start for those who are interested in learning more about what MMASI is all about. 3. Full MMASI 10-Series: Level 1 Online Course ($255) https://bit.ly/3wa7rZs- This is the introduction to the 10-Series, another foundational piece of any Structural Integration program. In this course, you will learn all about how we do the 10-Series in the Morales Method. You will get to see SI in action as I demonstrate all 10 sessions of the 10 series on a model for you to see! You get an idea of the flow, the mechanics, and the structure of an SI 10-series as well as how to incorporate this tool in your practice. Note: this course builds upon material taught in our Free Concepts of Palpation online course (https://bit.ly/3v7Jd0y) and our SI Gait & Theory course (described and linked above). Alright, folks, I hope that helps give you a clearer idea of all the ways you can dip your toes or fully immerse yourself in Structural Integration through the Morales Method. If you’re interested in learning more about the MMASI program or any of our online courses, please feel free to send us an email at [email protected].

If you didn’t already know, California is one of the only states that regulate massage with a board (the CAMTC), rather than through state licensure. This year, the CAMTC is up for its sunset review, which means we have an opportunity to change the way massage is being regulated in our state this year. Before we go too deeply into how we can make change, I want to discuss the pros and cons of retiring the CAMTC and moving on to state licensure. The Full MMASI 10-Series: Level 2 Online Course has finally arrived (https://bit.ly/3i9MucR)! We have been hard at work this year filming and editing to put together this amazing course for those serious bodyworkers who are interested in Structural Integration. As mentioned in the video below, for those of you who are brand new to Structural Integration and more especially to the Morales Method, we suggest starting with a more introductory level SI courses like our SI Theory... and Gait Assessment course or our Full MMASI 10-Series: Level 1 course (all available through teachable). In these courses, we will spend more time building the foundations that we work and expand upon for this brand new Full MMASI 10-Series: Level 2 Course! In the Level 2 course (https://bit.ly/3i9MucR), we will delve deeper into the real-life applications of the theories and philosophies like the Order of Complexity and the Principles of MMASI within the framework of the 10-Series. Happy Memorial Day, Folks! I hope you are all having a safe and happy weekend. The weather has been beautiful here in SF and I was so lucky to take some time off to get in the sun.

Morales Method 28.04.2021

How are things going with your business this year? We're through the first third of 2021, taxes are almost due (unless you’ve gotten an extension), and people are really starting to come back out of the woodwork after last year! Some of us may be starting to feel some serious fatigue from feeling thrust back into "regular life". While others of us may be chomping at the bit for more as you're feeling like things are going great and you're managing this return to fast pace lif...e with ease. Personally, I've been quite the busy bee so far this spring!! Now that vaccinations here in the SF have become pretty widespread (50% of San Franciscans over the age of 16 are fully vaccinated!), I'm finally starting to feel the flow of new clients reaching out and I'm very excited about it. I'm doing my best to pace myself and make some extra time for self-care. I find I need to create some intentional rest time for myself in ways that I didn't necessarily prioritize before and that's ok! Some of you may find you're struggling with filling your schedule back up after all the moving and shifting around that people have done in the last year. I've said it before and I will say it again: ask your existing clients for referrals! A simple statement like, "If you know anyone who could benefit from my work, please feel free to connect us!" goes such a long way. Most of my new clients are referrals from existing clients. I hope everything is going well for you, folks. If you're looking for support in your business and new strategies to run a successful practice, you can always keep culling through my posts, videos, and newsletters for tips OR you can check out our Healthcare Ultrapreneur Project (2.0 CEUs) to get all the tips and tricks in one place! HUP is an online business course created by Denise DeShetler and myself for practitioners looking to thrive in the healthcare field! Denise and I made sure to share all the strategies we personally used to stand out and create our successful practices in the Bay Area. Check it out here: https://moralesmethod.teachable.com/p/successfulentrepreneur That's it for today, everyone. I hope you are all safe and healthy!

Gait analysis and body reading can be tricky skills to pick up. The body has so many moving and interacting parts that it can be difficult to know what you’re even seeing as you watch a client walk. To help us create some sort of structure when reading the body and working, we at the Morales Method Academy of Structural Integration rely on what we call The Order of Complexity. This concept that’s at the foundation of our Structural Integration work at the MMASI, is based upon the Stages of Motor Development that most of us progress through as babies/toddlers. There’s much too much to say about it here, so go check out our most recent blog post to learn more! https://www.moralesmethod.com/single-po/order-of-complexity

Check out our new blog post: https://www.moralesmethod.com//the-art-of-listening-to-the I’ve been thinking about listening a lot lately as I have started to teach again. Due to our skilled touch, we bodyworkers have a special opportunity to listen to people in ways others in the health and wellness industry do not. Today, I wanted to talk a little bit more about I believe working with Directional Resistance and the Morales Method Concepts of Palpation can be a way to develop and hone that unique listening skill to improve your practice! Check it out below!

I got this amazing gift from a student of mine this week! She has started a business, Smoketree Massage and Apothecary, where she combines bodywork and natural remedies to help her clients heal. Check her Apothecary here: https://smoketree-massage-apothecary.myshopify.com/ as she has recently launched an online store! I’ve mentioned this before, but one of my favorite parts of teaching is the many different connections with all my students. I love watching them grow, find the...ir place in this field, and succeed! It’s an honor to be a part of their journey as they find their niche. I am always so happy to hear from my students to learn how they have been doing and what they have been up to, but to receive a gift was an extra special treat! To all of my students out there, know that the door is always open over here! I would love to hear from you and reconnect if its been a while, or get a quick update even if it hasn’t been very long! I hope you are all well and I am grateful for the role each and every one of you has played in the growth of the Morales Method over the years!

Working the psoas can be a really profound practice! In this video, I outline not only how to find the psoas, but also how to work the Directional Resistance of the psoas! A lot of us know to work along the psoas in the superior and inferior directions, but have you ever played with working medially and laterally on the psoas? You can also bring in passive shortening and lengthening by rotating the femur medially and laterally as seen in the video. Try it out and let me know how it goes! Hey, Folks! We will be having a meeting with a special guest, Rachael Martinez, on Friday 10/28 at 10 am PST! Rachael is a manual therapist from the Bay Area who is here to share her experiences related to her business during the pandemic. Building on the last meeting from 9/28 regarding How to Adapt and Thrive During Re-opening (posted on our YouTube page), we are now getting insight into Rachael’s personal experience with her business over the past 7 months and the valuable... lessons she learned. This meeting will be held on Zoom next Friday, October 23 at 10:00 am https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87298320669 Meeting ID: 872 9832 0669 I think it is important to hear and share our experiences of how different practitioners have handled the curve balls we have been thrown in the last year, to open our eyes to the many different ways that we can adapt to these challenges. There is a definite need to strategize for success in this business and that means something different for each of us. Come join us to hear more about Rachael’s story and learn new ways to strengthen your business! I am so excited about this meeting and I can’t wait to see you all on Friday 10/23!

Our Morales Method Move In Mind Program is now available completely online! This new, fully online format breaks down into three parts. First, students will complete our 10-hour online course available through Teachable. Then students will begin 24 hours of Home Study to practice the techniques learned in the online course. Finally, students will partake in 18 hours of Live Online Training with Monica Canducci to complete their certification hours. Move In Mind is for anyo...ne interested in the connection between the body and the mind. No former bodywork experience necessary for this course. The techniques in this program will help your clients overcome motor conflicts and improve motor control, coordination, and fluidity. This modality provides bodyworkers, mental health practitioners, and movement educators who want to integrate, implement, or develop movement work based on neuroplasticity in their practice to maximize their effectiveness. This week I received the cover for our Deep Tissue Bodywork book that we will be releasing later this year! I am so excited to to be so close to sharing this book with everyone, because its contents are a valuable resource for bodyworkers. As any of you who have taken a Deep Tissue class with me know, the Morales Method approach to Deep Tissue differs quite a bit from the classic approach that most of us learned in our basic training. From Body Mechanics to Directional Resis...tance, this book will open your eyes to a fresh way to do this classic modality. You will learn how to work safely, effectively, and efficiently anywhere on the body with this book. We also focus in on both the neck and the low back, giving you a myriad of specific ways to target these areas we often encounter as bodyworkers. I truly believe that practitioners of all levels will receive huge benefits from this book. Make sure to stay tuned here to know when you can get your very own copy!

When I used to work in the spa world and found myself doing a lot of 60-minute full-body massages, I learned that one way to use my time more efficiently was working the arms in supine only. By challenging myself to do this, I came up with a lot of different ways to address the prone side of the arms and I especially love this way of working the triceps. I wanted to share this technique with you to remind you to be creative with your work. As long as your BMs (Body Mechanics ...) are looking good and the work feels effective, go for it! One of the things that keeps me most inspired as a bodyworker is that each client presents me with an opportunity to do something different than I did in my last session. The work is always changing and always keeping me on my toes! In this meeting, we discussed how to navigate returning to work in a way that sets you up for success and what to expect as you begin to see your clients again. The meeting was quite a success! It was great to see some people I hadn’t seen in years and to connect with other bodyworkers who are also returning to work after shelter in place. I hope you find the meeting helpful and we are looking forward to having more in the future to continue to support our community of bodyworkers!

How have things been changing for you as you return to your business? I think many industries will be changed forever from the events of the last 6 months and the Massage and Bodywork Industry is definitely included. This can be a frightening thought. Consistency and predictability are safe and comfortable. However, evolution rarely happens in comfortable and safe ways. Changes can sometimes be a little turbulent, but that turbulence is the catalyst for innovation and adapta...tion. As I have been returning to work in my private practice and as a manual therapy teacher, I have found myself thinking about evolutionary theory. Wallace and Darwin believed that the evolution of organisms was connected with the adaptation of organisms to changing environmental conditions. Feels relevant, right!? While the current environment is an unpredictable and frightening space right now, it can also be seen as ripe for evolution. In that, there is hope for improvement. Hope for the brilliance, creativity, beauty, and strength humankind has shown in the face of adversity in the past to support us through the current challenges. We have a zoom meeting today at 10AM PDT discussing how we can adapt and thrive in this changing environment as Bodyworkers.
