Carved in 2016 from two dead Monterey Cypress trees on the site, the piece immediately drew criticism and harsh words. I, for one, am happy to see that issues appear resolved and the whales will be saved and restored. #seemonterey

Raising the Stars & Stripes over the Custom House, Sloat proclaimed California as part of the United States. ALERT: BEACH AND PARKING LOT CLOSURES ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, JULY 4 5 Due to the expected crowds over the 4th of July weekend, and prioritizing public hea...lth, the City of Monterey will additionally order a hard closure of beaches in Monterey. DEL MONTE, SAN CARLOS AND MCABEE BEACHES WILL BE CLOSED ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, JULY 4 AND 5. Ocean activities will be allowed, including swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing and boogie boarding, and skin and scuba diving. Beach activities of any kind will be prohibited. No parking will be posted on Del Monte Beach neighborhood streets, Monterey Bay Park Parking Lot, and Sand Dunes Drive near Monterey Tides Hotel. The Waterfront Lot will remain open including the area in front of and behind Dust Bowl Brewery.
