Dear Monterey County Agricultural Industry: The Agricultural Commissioner’s Office will be distributing hand sanitizer and disposable surgical masks to agricultural companies for the protection of agricultural workers. The UC IPM Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) is offering webinars on pesticide safety through Zoom in both English and Spanish. Webinar topics include information on rodenticides and wildlife, organic herbicides in landscapes, how to ensure compliance with pesticide regulations, and how to respond to pesticide emergencies. This information is critical for employers and supervisors to ensure compliance with California and federal safety regulations, and for applicators... to learn how to handle pesticides safely. One hour of continuing education (CE) is given with completion of a quiz for each attended webinar. The majority of CE units are laws and regulations. Webinars are presented Tuesdays from 3-4 pm. Registration for all webinars is available online. Pricing is $40 per webinar per person. CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ANNOUNCES VACANCIES ON THE INDUSTRIAL HEMP ADVISORY BOARD SACRAMENTO, October 23, 2020 - The California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Pest Exclusion Branch is announcing two (2) midterm vacancies on the Industrial Hemp Advisory Board (IHAB). The Board advises CDFA and makes recommendations on matters including, but not limited to, industrial hemp law and regulations, enforcement, annual budgets, and the setting of an... assessment rate. The term of office for board members is three years. Members meet at least once per year but may meet more frequently if needed. The members receive no compensation but are entitled to payment of necessary traveling expenses in accordance with the rules of the California Department of Human Resources. The Industrial Hemp Advisory Board makes recommendations to the CDFA Secretary on all matters pertaining to industrial hemp law and regulations, enforcement, annual budgets, and the setting of an assessment rate required to accomplish the purposes of the California Industrial Hemp Law. The Board has the following vacancies: One (1) board members shall be a registered cultivator of industrial hemp. One (1) board member shall be a representative of the Hemp Industries Association or its successor industry association. The successful candidates will be appointed to serve the remainder of terms that expire on May 31, 2023.
