Dancers of Arab descent, check out this scholarship opportunity for the 2021 Arab Dance Seminar! (I'll be attending again, too, on the virtual/zoom track.)

We got to dance to a couple versions of one of my favorite tunes, Ya Hassan Ya Khouli, as we continue on on the balad path! <3 Wonderful dancing tonight, dance pals! I'll put lots of versions + lyrics in the comments, too, so be sure to click 'all comments'. Let's start with Suzy Khairy!... https://vimeo.com/106382528

Yalla! Yalla yalla. Yallaaa! Yalla yalla! Y'all...that was good. It is hard to let go like that, but I *think* we did? We moved from the work we've been doing to some of the more well known structured songs of the baladi genre (which can sound different from one another, as personality and improvisation are crucial to the form for both dancers, singers and musicians). Here is the song we ended with (the middle portion it switches from Aminti Billah to another tune that is of...ten, but not always, paired with it ; ) ). I'll put the other song we used tonight, Ya Baladi Ya Wad, in the comments (ETA: be sure to look at 'all comments' to see them!), and maybe some more versions of this as well. Also I'll put Fifi dancing to both tunes : ) Thanks for being part of it all! See you next week! Link: https://youtu.be/XbDXK8GgCW0

Soooo nourished. Thank you, dancers. Needed that hour of music and movement with you all. We danced to a LOT of music tonight, but this tune is one of my all time faves, and one I mentioned I would for sure share. I recommend buying all of Mahmoud Fadl's albums...solo stuff, his work with Salamat, and anything he has produced! (I'm a total Fadl stan!)... See you next week! See more

Thank you, yet again, for inspiring me in class this evening! Here is a baladi progression for you to play with dancing along to this week. Thanks also for the reminder to write the names of challenging words in the chat...I'll be better about doing that next week, but always ask if you aren't sure what I said or how to spell something. I appreciate the reminder! See you next week. xoxo!
