Architecture of the Short External Rotator Muscles of the Hip Conclusion : The key findings are that these muscles have relatively small individual PCSAs, ...short fiber lengths, and low pennation angles. The large collective PCSA and short fiber lengths of the gemelli and obturators suggest that they primarily play a stabilizing role rather than a joint rotating role. Dr Ida Rolf was undoubtedly one of the most significant women of the twentieth century. A great mind and pioneering thinker, a creative scientist years ahead of... her time, she spent much of her life exploring the human capacity for healing. Her education, professional career and life circumstances led her to explore various modalities that gradually evolved into what become known as Structural Integration and then took on the name Rolfing. Essentially, Rolfing seeks to address the development and liberation of an individual’s innate human potential, with the palliation of symptoms an ancillary benefit. Dr Rolf was initially educated and trained within the empiricism of scientific academia and remained firmly rooted in those traditions. Her work was founded upon the physics of aligning the human body within the field of gravity. She integrated her scientific perspective with mind-body awareness without relying on an eastern mystical philosophy to justify her conclusions. It is clear from her writings and teachings that her studies of biological chemistry and physics provided critical insight, inspiring such statements as, You cannot change the energy field, but you can change the man--the body will go as far as it will physically go, within the laws of physics. and What would happen to behavior if you changed chemistry? The first way to change chemistry is to change physics. Dr Rolf conceived of Rolfing as a gateway into making progressive changes within the human organism, encompassing the physical, intellectual and emotional aspects. See more

Great visual on Meniscus injuries Meniscal injuries, particularly sports-related injuries, usually involve damage due to rotational force. A common mechanism o...f injury is a varus or valgus force directed to a flexed knee. When the foot is planted and the femur is internally rotated, a valgus force applied to a flexed knee may cause a tear of the medial meniscus. A varus force on a flexed knee with the femur externally rotated may lead to a lateral meniscus lesion. According to Ricklin, the medial meniscus is attached more firmly than the relatively mobile lateral meniscus, and this may result in a greater incidence of medial meniscus injury. Posted @withregram @fasciatrainingacademy The main thing to remember about all connective tissues is that they are mostly non-cellular in their make up. That... doesn’t mean to say there are no cells in fascia, just that mostly the fascia is the product of the cell. This is pretty important as if fascia were mostly composed of cells they would need to consume a lot of energy and would also need to be replaced As it is, fascia is mainly protein in the form of collagen and acts as both as a scaffolding and a separator The muscle fibers are kept both separated and connected by the connective tissue that runs in between them and around them. This gives the fibers both strength and integrity but also allows space for fluid to run between and around them. Fluids in the body not only allow for movement to take place on every level, but also allow for nutrients and waste to be carried around the entire system. #fasciatrainingacademy #fascia #fascial #fascialfitness #fasciatraining #fascialtraining #fascialstretchtherapy #fascialrelease #myofascial #myofascialrelease #myofascia #movement #movementtherapy #movementismedicine #injuryprevention #injuryrecovery #mobility #fascialyoga #prehab #stretching #flexibility #elasticity #movebetter #anatomy #biotensegrity #tensegrity #anatomystudy #sciencesaturday #rolfing #structuralintegration #rolfingmovement #dridarolfinstitute #dridarolf #weholdtohigherstandards #embodiment #bodyreading #somatictherapy #anatomyandphysiology

This is a Tree that got hit by lightning and it exposed it's Vascular System. Nature is so complex. A Tree’s Vascular System carries water and minerals from the... roots up to the leaves, and photosynthesized food back down to the rest of the tree. Interesting fact: Trees have no Muscles (or Nervous System) so all of this movement is powered by turgor pressure, which is controlled by stomata in the leaves that open and close as needed.

< The Heart is Not a Pump >> Many of us live under the medical myth that the heart is a pump, an idea borne of an industrialised culture that views the body as... a machine. The heart however is so much more beautiful and fascinating than we ever could have imagined! Modern analysis of the heart has shown that in spite of the fact that the most powerful ventricle of the heart can shoot water six feet into the air, the amount of pressure actually needed to force the blood through the entire length of the body’s blood vessels would have to be able to lift a one hundred pound weight one mile high - Stephen Buhner So how does the blood move around the labyrinth-like vessels of our body? It moves of its own accord. You see, blood flow is not a simple stream like we once thought. It is in fact composed of two streams, spiralling around each other much like the image of a DNA double helix, at the centre of which is a vacuum. Blood flow through living vessels is much more like a tornado than anything else: Such a vacuum is necessary for producing a vortex - Stephen Buhner How cool is that? This spiral dance is not only found in the bloodstream, but also in the blood cell itself! Blood cell’s in fact spin on their own individual axes of rotation. They are smaller spinning cells in a larger spinning vortex. If your mind is not blown yet, let’s go back to the heart. The heart itself has recently been discovered not to be a mass of muscle, but rather a ‘helicoidal myocardial band’ that has spiralled in upon itself, creating its unique shape and its separate chambers. This is called the Helical Heart, and you can see doctors unravel it by searching ‘Helical Heart’ on Youtube. Pair this with discoveries that the heart functions as an endocrine gland, has its own nervous system that makes and releases its own neurotransmitters, and omits an electromagnetic field that is far stronger than the brain’s, and we begin to move from the idea that the heart is simply a mechanical pump. It is a spiralling organ of perception. If that’s not beautiful, we don’t know what is. Reading this now. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32712453/ "Sensory innervation of the human shoulder joint: the three bridges to break" Quite the good picture... of the suprascpular nerve and the AC-rete! "Conclusion: Current literature supports the presence of a common sensory innervation pattern for the human shoulder joint. Anatomic studies have demonstrated that the most common parent nerves supplying AB(articular branches) to the shoulder joint are the suprascapular, lateral pectoral, and axillary nerves.."

KNEE TENSEGRITY [FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY] This post is a great follow up to my previous posts about the thigh muscles.... All muscles I talked about are mainly involved in stabilizing the knee joint and also make sure your knee is healthy! Tensegrity biomechanics are governed by the balance of tension and compression. Here we see a diagram of the muscles that attach to the lower limb (tibia and fibula). The tensional balance of these muscles pulleys must be equal in order to manage the compression of the knee joint and its internal contents. If tension is unequal in any of these tissues, compression ensues (meniscus). In the first picture, the arrows represent the muscles that effect the knee joint/distal femur directly. They all balance each other’s pull through a tensegrity system. They are: Biceps femoris (1) IT Band (2) Quadriceps tendon (3) Semimembranosis (4) Sartorius (5) Gracilis (6) Semintenonosis (7) Balanced tissue tension joint centration optimal knee function. Now you can question yourself if Osteoarthritis is a disease or a by product of the imbalance between tension and compression? This points out how important it is to work continuously on imbalances not only at the knee joint but at the whole musculo-sceleto-fascial system especially if you work with professional athletes! Know your functional anatomy, not just what the books say. It will make you a better doctor, therapist or coach.
