Hello Dancers and welcome back to campus! We hope you had a fabulous first week of spring semester . Proposals for Choreographers and Directors have been sent out! Proposals for these positions will be due NEXT SUNDAY, February 6th. Check your emails! . We can’t wait to hear from all of you soon! ANNOUNCEMENT Hi everyone! We are so excited to announce we will begin dancing THIS MONDAY! This week Momentum will be hosting Audition Workshop Classes! If you’re interested in joining Momentum, then these are the classes for you! .. We will be holding these classes in Acker 204 from 6-8pm. Monday-Wednesday we will be offering styles such as HipHop, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Ballet, and Musical Theater! We are open to any and all Chico State Students! ..... PSA We are thrilled to announce that Chico State Rec Club Sports have been given the green light to resume normal activities this upcoming school year For Momentum, this means that we are expecting to not only hold weekly rehearsals, but that we will be able to put on our end of semester showcases as well!! !ATTENTION DANCERS! We are happy to announce Momentum’s first Thursday class back since last year! We will be hosting a stretching class to get everyone back into the groove. The class will be held from 6:45 to 8 PM and located at the Chico State Stadium behind the Student Health Center/ Acker (please note the bike path between Nord and the stadium is closed off this week). .. This class will be hosted by Momentum’s President, Amaya Barcus! Please being a yoga mat or a... beach towel/blanket for your comfort! .. *PLEASE READ* School guidelines require that all dancers are to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times. Any personal belongings must also be distanced from others. You must bring your water, you are not allowed to share with others. There will be a water refill station available as needed. .. We recently received an email from our Rec Advisors stating that due to liabilities, we will not be permitted to hold any form of in person OR virtual dance classes for the time being. We are getting in contact with everyone we can to ensure we have a fun filled semester! Stay tuned for more information on what this semester holds for Momentum! With that being said, the Directors have been meeting and discussing what we think will be the best plan for Momentum this Fall semester. We were told to plan for a virtual semester and that’s what we’re doing! . . Momentum will be hosting a weekly class over zoom (similar to our Thursday classes we held in semesters past). BUT, we want your input! Be on the lookout for posts to our story regarding plans for this upcoming semester. We will be posting polls and suggestion boxes for you all to participate in! Thank you and we can’t wait to dance again!

Jourdan Henson Jourdan is always ready to work every time she comes in. I love her enthusiasm and always has a smile on her face! -Madison ..... Sarina Diehl Sarina is a great dancer to have in rehearsals! she makes my job really easy by always paying attention, asking good questions, and answering the questions i have for my dancers as well! i can tell she practices the choreography on her own time and she always works hard during rehearsals! thank you Sarina for being so awesome! -Emily .. Aurora McCarrick Aurora is always super attentive and kind during rehearsals. She always goes full out and is super easy to work with! it has been such a joy working with her! -Cami .. Happy Monday Dancers for this week’s #MeetMomentumMonday we want to introduce you to Zaya Pickens and Tsewiniche Van Pelt .. Zaya Pickens is in her 2nd year as a Child Development major at Chico State and will be in 3 dances with semester She has been dancing since she was 3 years old and has experience in tap, ballet, jazz and hip hop Zaya is so excited to have come upon Momentum she’s met a lot of beautiful hearted and caring people and says each person on Momen...tum has their own style and personality and that’s what makes our team come alive We’re SO happy to have you apart of our Dancing Fam Zaya .. Tsewiniche Van Pelt is a freshman at Chico State and in 4 dances this semesterShe has danced at No Limits Dance Academy for 5 years and has done competitive dancing for 4 years in hip hop and jazz while taking contemporary and ballet classes!! Tsewiniche has had three solos and is also apart of Envy Hip Hop Dance Team See more

For this weeks #DancerSpotlight we asked TUESDAY choreographers to choose a dancer to highlight that they think deserves some more recognition for their hard work .. Lesley Bernabe We have picked Lesley because of her amazing work ethic. She comes to class with energy, questions, and willingness to collaborate! -Giang & Suzy ..... Jo Bonhof Jo is always on time, prepared, asks great questions and is always eager to learn!! -Clarissa .. Jenna Lateano Jenna is focused during rehearsal and asks questions responsibly! She’s attentive in and I can’t wait to see how this semester goes on with her in the piece -Amaya .. Griffin Wood-Smith Griffin lights up the room during rehearsals! He’s always contributing positive energy to the learning process, going full-out on the choreography, and asking questions that benefit the whole group. He is a dancer I can trust, challenge, and crack jokes with and I appreciate that range so much. Thanks for always killin’ it Griffin! -Ashlee .. Happy #MeetMomentumMonday Dancers this week we would like to introduce you to Sumire Matsui and Chad Rose .. Sumire Matsui is an international student and is senior at Chico State she is in 2 dances this semester! Sumire started dancing when she was 6 years old and has 9 years of ballet training So happy to have you apart of Momentum Sumire .. Chad Rose currently works at a local Goodwill and is 2 dances this semester Chad has been dancing all his life and it has helped him become more confident in himself and how he presents his body he said Momentum has been a great step in my dance journey since moving to Chico this last summer. Never stop dancing! We agree Chad! So happy to have you apart of Momentum

Here’s what to expect: "This heels class is going to be a fun & flirty confidence booster!! We are going to start with a warm up, then put on our heels, go to some acro...ss the floor, then learn a combo. The combo is a fun, sexy & hard hitting heels piece to the song Tempo by Lizzo ft. Missy Elliot. The combo has a lot of hip hop influences and will be so much fun to perform! - P.S. you don't have to wear heels if you don't have any, or if you don't want to!! Still come dance with us!" -Marley .. Choreographer bio: "I've been dancing since I was four years old and I've trained in every style you can think of: pointe, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and I currently teach at Kinetics Academy of Dance here in Chico. Just like every semester, we will be showcasing off dancers for #SpotlightDancer Each week we ask Momentum choreographers to nominate a dancer from their rehearsal that they think deserves recognition for their hard work This week we asked MONDAY choreographers and here’s what they said .. Geoffrey Bark... Geoffrey is always enthusiastic during rehearsals and very attentive! -Emi .. Nayellie I appreciate the attentive and positive energy, Nayellie has during rehearsals. She is respectful in that she shows up on time and communicates her needs and asks for help. Nayellie is always ready to dance and learn new choreography! -Laura .. John Montes John takes direction well, is respectful, and is quick to volunteer for things in the dance! -Kyla .. Kara Stack She’s such a hard worker and makes a point to ask clarifying questions that make me think more about my choreography.
