Historias de superación de Oaxaqueñ@s. My name is Yenedit Mendez Avendaño. I am from Ayoquezco de Aldama, Oaxaca and immigrated to the US at the age of 7 years old. My mother fled our home town due to domestic violence. Growing up in a domestic violence household was very hard and the biggest obstacle that we faced as a family especially because in our pueblos it is not something that is openly talked about. For a long time, I was ashamed of being Oaxaqueña because of the ...derogatory names that are used by other’s it was not until 2011 that I began to explore my identity and embraced being Oaxaqueña. This is thanks to a youth group named Autonomos and CBDIO (local non-profit). I was undocumented for most of my college journey and graduated May 2018 with my B.A. in Sociology and the Humanics certificate. During my time at Fresno State I helped Co-found MOLE. We decided to create MOLE to empower ourselves and to support other Oaxaqueños students at Fresno State. Currently, I am Co-Director of Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indigena Oaxaqueño, a local non-profit, whose mission is"to foster and strengthen the civic participation, economic, social, cultural development, as well as the resistance of the indigenous communities". I am where I am thanks to my mother who loves me unconditionally and who did her best with what she had. I am thriving, thanks to community (Family (mom, Sister, brother, husband, Sebastian), friends, professors, colleagues and mentors). * Yenedith was the first MOLE President. We are very proud of you. we thank you for everything you have done for the Club. Gracias #MOLEPRIDE #OAXAQUEÑA #ORGULLO #AYOQUEZCANA

Good evening everyone, we will like to announce our new project Historias de superación de Oaxaqueñ@s My name is Guadalupe Acevedo Callejas. I was born and raised in Oaxaca city. When I was eight years old my family made the drastic decision of moving to Fresno; where we spent our first six months living in a small garage. Everyone underestimated my struggles adjusting to this first world country. They believed my young age made it easier to adjust, which it did, but it did... not make my pain any less significant. I was bullied at school, at church, and even by my own cousins for being too Mexican and not speaking proper English. I learned to not take offense at peoples comments. I started working at a young age with my father in Electrical work. At the age of 16 I had my first real job at Footlocker, were I still work today. This is my fourth year at Fresno State pursuing a Bachelor degree in Accounting. My major can be hard at times, but it will all be worth it when I obtain my dream job as an internal auditor. I try to visit Oaxaca as much as I can to keep myself grounded and remind myself where I came from. After all, Oaxaca will always be home to me. #Oaxaqueñapride #FresnoState #Chingona See more

AfroOaxaqueños The #Afromexicanos of Oaxaca are our third root, symbol of identity, culture and history. The majority of them live in the "Costa Chica", which includes a large territory between Oaxaca and Guerrero, there are municipalities whose inhabitants are direct descendants of Africans. For several centuries they have been part of the most important events in the history of our state and our country, without even giving them the recognition they deserve.... In addition to their physical characteristics, they keep alive their cultural legacy inherited from their ancestors who arrived as slaves to the Mexican territory during the colony. For the first time in history, the federal government, carried out this 2020, the first census of Afro-Mexicans, which will finally allow to know how many they are and meet their most important demands, the first of them, the recognition of their existence. #Afromexicanos #OaxacaLoTieneTodo Lightning of the Chilean, soyjoms and other credits to whom it may concern.
