Don’t forget that academic scholarship applications are due this Tuesday by midnight!
We’re proud to announce the third annual Mountain House Fire Scholarship of Merit! This scholarship will be open to all Mountain House High School graduating seniors who plan to move on to a post-secondary education after graduation. Two winners will be selected. Please help spread the word! The French Camp Firefighters Association recognizes the importance of education in our community. Formal education rewards students with valuable life experience, skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen careers, and memories to last a lifetime. We would like to assist two students, regardless of major or career path, that demonstrate the ambition and desire to be resolute assets to our community, country, and world.
Congratulations to the seven community members who graduated from our free CERT Basic course last weekend. This was a new hybrid course developed by the University of Utah and adopted by California. Participants complete the lecture portion online at their own pace, then come into the station to learn and complete the hands-on skills portions of the course. This allows us the best opportunity to host CERT Basic courses while abiding by COVID guidelines. Many of the participants will continue to engage in trainings we hold to improve their skills in the event of a disaster or large-scale emergency here in Mountain House. If you’re interested in CERT training, please email [email protected] to get on the waitlist for the next class.
At 5pm this Saturday, 12/19, Santa is coming back to Mountain House with your Mountain House Firefighters! The photos attached include the general routes we will take with Santa. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we will not be able to stop for photos or collect toys this year. We hope to see you there! The order of the villages will be Wicklund-Bethany-Altamont-Questa-Hansen-Cordes-College Park.
Thank you to Ichiro Chicharon for donating masks to our crews! Kind gestures like this are very much appreciated as we continue to follow best practices for COVID-19.
Food drive! Similar to what we had at the beginning of the shutdown, there will be a table outside of the community room of the fire station with supplies from 9am to 7pm until further notice. Come on by!
A message from Fire Chief McArn: We were recently made aware of an incident at Wicklund Market that involved two of our firefighters and a sheriff deputy not wearing masks while purchasing goods. It was said that the personnel laughed at a community member when they were directly confronted about not wearing a mask. After a prompt internal investigation, including a meeting with the store owner, it was found that the personnel in question were never approached by a community... member nor did they laugh at such a confrontation. They had stopped in for waters after training and did not wear masks while doing so. With that said, we as public servants must do better in following regulations related to COVID-19. We are not exempt. We apologize deeply for the concern this situation may have created. All fire personnel have been directed to continue utilizing face masks and exercising social distancing while interacting in the public arena. All personnel are aware of the concerns related to COVID-19 and take those concerns seriously. We’re proud to serve the community of Mountain House!
A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of presenting our second annual Scholarship of Merit award to two deserving graduating seniors of Mountain House High School. Iris Campos and Bernice Angelene Lozada are sure to make a positive impact in our world. Congratulations! Check out this short, fun video that covers some of the training that Mountain House CERT volunteers have completed! We truly appreciate our volunteers and their aspirations to help others in these trying times. https://youtu.be/tMYsYuu2v6w
Yesterday, 15 of your fellow Mountain House community members raised their right hands and took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States as Community Emergency Response Team members. This was accomplished via teleconference with San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services while using social distancing best practices. CERT volunteers receive many hours of training in disaster response, search and rescue, disaster medical treatment, basic fire sup...pression, and more. In light of the current state of emergency, the Mountain House Fire CERT program will be performing welfare checks on high-risk community members and various other administrative duties to serve the state of California and the United States.
