At today’s meeting, President Dan Yockey introduced Pat Williams as volunteer of the month. Pattè Williams gave a thought for the day, Gerry Yorkey spoke about our successful garden tours and Lela Harrington encouraged people to drive by yards to enjoy at 3617 Cherokee, 2112 Cheyenne and the home at the corner of Virginia and Griswold.
These are members socializing before today’s Garden Club Meeting. It’s good to be back.

Don (and Gerry) Yockey successfully obtained plants, organized locations and recruited members to plant all the downtown pots. Other members prepared a delicious lunch for the volunteers. It was a beautiful morning.
The five corners downtown planters (Lucas Plaza) were cleaned up and replanted this morning. We look forward to the blooms!
Several Modesto Garden Club members recently enjoyed constructing a potted flower arrangement. Thank you Karen Johnson for organizing the workshop with the Westurf team.

Oakdale Garden Club’s Autumn Garden Tour is October 10th!
The Modesto Garden Club had help from some young volunteers who gave a little extra water to plants at Lucas Plaza during this heat wave.
Modesto Garden Club member, Norene Dexter, recently had friends try to guess just how many potted plants she has in her yard. The answer was 476! Norene graciously allowed me to explore her back yard to document a few of her potted flowers and succulents. Although she says the recent heat wave has taken a tole, there were treasures to be found. Please enjoy.

The Modesto Garden Club’s strong focus on beautification continued Saturday. Members stopped by the club office, picked up flowers, loaded them in their vehicles and spent the morning planting the containers throughout downtown Modesto.
The UC Master Gardeners of Stanislaus County are offering a free lecture, Native Pollinators in your Garden: Virtual Class, on Tuesday, May 26 from 6-7:30pm. It is a virtual lecture via ZOOM. The guest speaker will be Chris Howington, Natural Resources Conservation Service. Howington will focus on using California native plants and pollinator friendly practices to create habitat for these species. visit ucanr.edu/virtualpollinators/2020 to register for the lecture. Modesto Garden Club members pruned the rose garden at College and Briggsmore and the roses are now in full bloom.
The rose garden that was pruned in January is now in full bloom at Orangeburg and the Virginia Corridor.
This Modesto Garden Club member’s hardscape yard is celebrating the light side of Easter during this difficult time.
