Las Lunas Locas Poetry event TONIGHT at Mills Hall!
This week marks the anniversary of Executive Order 9066 which led to the mass incarceration of innocent Japanese Americans. We spoke with people who lived through it:

Urge Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Sen. Barbara Boxer to amend #HR158! Refugee caseworkers, aid workers, and human rights investigators in Iraq & Syria shouldn't b...e denied visa waivers. Blanket bans to the Visa Waiver Program based solely on nationality are discriminatory and un-American. #WeAreBetterThanThis #RefugeesWelcome See more
URGE YOUR SENATORS TO AMEND THE "VISA WAIVER PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT AND TERRORIST TRAVEL PREVENTION ACT OF 2015" (H.R. 158). "H.R. 158 terminates travel privileges for all citizens of VWP countries who are dual nationals of Iraq, Syria, Iran, or Sudan. This revocation of VWP privileges would apply to all nationals of Iraq, Syria, Iran, or Sudan even if they have never resided in or traveled to Iraq or Syria. By singling out these four nationalities to the exclusion of other dual nationals in VWP countries, H.R. 158 amounts to blanket discrimination based on nationality and national origin without a rational basis." I heard in one of my classes that 7 states were trying to say that they would not accept any Syrian refugees at all. Luckily they're constitutionally in the wrong, and they don't have that power.
Private prisons profiting off the suffering of migrants... "Hundreds of men have launched a hunger strike at an immigrant detention center in the high desert ci...ty of Adelanto, Calif., making it the fourth immigrant detention facility in the United States where protesting detainees have refused food in recent weeks. Shannah Abdulluah, an asylum-seeker from Ghana who has been in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody since he asked for amnesty at the Mexican border 11 months ago, said he and about 90 other men joined the hunger strike this week. Abdulluah, whose asylum claim was recently rejected, said his goal is to be released on parole and to raise awareness about how detainees are treated in the privately run detention facility." Tabling and poster making in the rain!!!
Immigrant women are being made to wear ankle monitors, a uniquely dehumanizing experience, while they are waiting to seek asylum to live with their families in the Unites States. Ankle monitors expand the dehumanizing experience of detention, they are not an appropriate alternative.
Time lapse of our event "Visions From The Inside: Connecting To Our Community" that took place on October 26, 2015 in downtown Oakland. We joined forces with ...Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) and Betti Ono Gallery to install a temporary wheat-paste mural using images from the #VisionsFromTheInside project. The art pieces, inspired by letters penned by mothers detained at Karnes Detention Center in Texas, were developed by 15 artists across the country. To view all completed art pieces, please visit: bit.ly/csvisions CultureStrike would like to take this opportunity to stand in solidarity with the men and women who are participating in hunger strikes across the country. We fully support the actions of the hungers strikers of #Hutto27, #ElPaso54, #LaSalle14 and #AdelantoHungerStrike. ICE has began to retaliate against #Hutto27 strikers. Make a call to support the those participating in these hunger strikes and urge ICE to stop their retaliation: bit.ly/hutto27.
