Minarets Pack Station 18.02.2021

I guess there's supposed to be a segment on the Creek Fire showing on A&E, this Friday night, Live Rescue, either at 8pm or 8:30pm or 9pm. One of those times. We wont be able to watch it that night. Have to record it. But, it will be interesting to see what others experienced.

FYI- Just so ya know when booking to stay overnight. The two room bunkhouse is no longer available. However, we're adding another glamping tent. We're changing things around a bit. We gave the bunkhouse to Melody and Ben (daughter & son-in-law) and, we are welcoming a new little one to our family around the time our season gets up and rolling. Yes! Grandparents again. This one will be fun. I'm hoping for a Fancy Nancy or two but boys are fantastic too. We wish them luck!

We did the impossible. And Yes, we are still keeping and working the pack station. Ok here it is. We moved our home ranch. It took all of 33 days but, we did it! Yes, it was a good decision. There are still mornings I get up at 3 or so but for the most part, I've slept more full nights in the past month than I have in probably 30 years. The mules and family are safe and sound. Everyone is getting on with their schedules. We are rebuilding our pretty much everything since ther...e was nothing but a home, and some fencing on the property. The mules fencing here is done. Tracy and Ben got their fencing pretty much done. The mules have the best of both worlds as where we live is on the side of a mountain that looks like pack station forest, and Ben and Mel have the grass lands. The chickens have their insulated cabin and new yard to roam. It's bigger than the last one. We still need to truck in more Rock to add to the feeding driveway into the top pasture (feed off the sides of it), need to build the dog kennels and hay barn. But...it's getting done. Here are some pictures of the mules having breakfast in the snow. And we think all the turkeys told their friends about us because there's more than when we moved here now. Tuga and Cricket chase them. See more

Good Morning! Despite last seasons Creek Fire, our phones are heating up (LOL) with phone calls for trips out and our famous Glamping tents. We feel so lucky. Yes, on the way to the pack station people will see what remains of a forest they knew, but also some new growth along with small areas that were surprisingly untouched. When guests get to the end if 81 to turn left on Beasore, I'm sure they will wonder if they should've booked or not. No worries. Slowly but surely thei...r view of the forest will change on the way down our driveway. Thank the firefighters for working so hard, going way above and beyond to save all they could. Our guests won't even know there was a natural disaster surrounding Minarets Pack Station. Although many trees have been taken down, there are still more to come out in the camp ground area to thin, and corrals have to be rebuilt before the stock can be brought in. I've been thinking about writing up the volunteer sheet but it's still a bit too soon. We're watching the snow right now to see what else Mother Nature has in store. I will be promoting camping at Minarets to kick off the season. I think we're going to have few more guests coming up to experience a new beginning for our Sierra National Forest. Remember, if you or someone you know plans to take a drive, and you end up at the pack station, Please book your campsite or glamping tent and all that goes with it, ahead of time. I'm looking for new recipes for 2021. Share if you have them. I'll be doing more BBQ outside this season, brisket, tri-tip, burgers, etc. Just keep in mind that I don't flip burgers all day for a living. There's other things for Hannah and I to do. I'm going to find a food vendor to make up sandwiches (premade) for those surprise guests who wander in hungry. No worries, you won't starve. I have some other ideas too. Need to call Leslie or Debbie to look into it. Just remember, though I love to cook, it's not my life, and when I start dinner, it's usually around 2 or 3pm. Depends on what it is. DINNER is always at 6:30PM. There's a lot to think about right now, but you'll see it when it's figured out. See more

Good Morning! Happy Thanksgiving! I got up at 2:30am. Much on my mind. And then there's cooking. Our move will begin soon. It will take all of a month to get it done. Many hands will help. Thankful to them. There's much to do. My home is 2/3rds packed up. The mules watch as it happens. They know there's something coming as they see the property changes. My cats don't know where my cool stuff junk yard has gone. They walk around looking. Even my awful cat knows so...Continue reading

Good Morning. Ok. I've heard there is a weather station set up at the Abderson's Cow Camp, by a fire crew. That's nice but, here's what we really need. Think People: A pack station is pretty much located where trail heads are, camp grounds, points of destination. We have Isberg, Fernandez, Jackass, Chiquito, and Mammoth. High Sierra Pack Station has the John Muir, and access to the PCT. I don't know the others. I'm just using the second pack station as a point of reff...Continue reading
