Our very own Helen Fleck, DPT helped Milestone Physical Therapy ring in the New Year by volunteering to decorate the first-ever float honoring the power of physical therapy! The California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) float debuted on January 1st, 2022 in the 133rd Tournament of Rose Parade and was endowed with the Grand Marshal Award. This year’s Grand Marshal was LeVar Burton, the well-known actor, director, educator and lifelong children’s literacy advocate. The Ame...rican Physical Therapy Association (APTA) believes the theme of the parade, "Dream. Believe. Achieve," couldn't be more fitting for the physical therapy float, which celebrates the diversity of individuals served by PTs and PTAs, the diversity of the profession, and the 100-year history of APTA. As the pictures show, the float features three figures reveling in movementa competitive athlete with a prosthesis, a jogger who's an older adult enjoying her moment in the sun, and a young person in a wheelchair, joyfully doing a wheelie. Have you every heard of Lymphedema? Most people have heard of lymph nodes (those swollen things under your jaw when you get sick) but thats about it. Others have heard of it in relation to cancer diagnoses and surgeries. Lymphedema is a type of swelling can develop in a body part when we have damage to, or removal of lymph nodes in that area. Milestone now has a Certified Lymphedema Therapist on staff! Jessica took her specialized 135 hour training course over the summer..., and is up and running to treat patients with lymphedema.
