*Job Announcement* Forestry Tech Description: This position will be comprised mostly of field work. The work will be conducted with small field crews. This position is non-supervisory. Learn more at http://www.mkwc.org/get-involved/employment/
MKWC Director Will Harling and Fisheries Program Director Charles Wickman reviewed the helicopter wood loading project on upper Horse Creek today after high flows started engaging the wood structures. Already side channels are reconnecting, pool depths are increasing, and long dry floodplains are looking fishy! On the way home they stopped to marvel at the off-channel habitat at the mouth of Tom Martin Creek that was recently expanded by some busy beavers! Recent PIT tag data from returning adults to the Scott River are pointing to the critical role these Mid Klamath tributaries like Tom Martin play in supporting coho runs on the Scott River.
Our 2020 Newsletter is here! Articles from MKWC staff and board members cover a range of topics from all of our programs, including how the pandemic curve relates to the invasive plant curve, the west's reckoning with fire, and a somewhat unsettling visual of giant root wad dangling from a helicopter overhead during the Horse Creek wood loading project. "Flip" through it at our website: http://www.mkwc.org//publicat/newsletters/2020-newsletter/. We hope you enjoy and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The popular cost-share program FLASH is coming back to Orleans and Somes Bar (Humboldt County only, sorry!)! FLASH offers a rebate by the acre for fuels reduction done on your own place. FLASH prioritizes elders, people with disabilities, and low income residents. Be sure to go to the FLASH website (link on flyer) for more information and to fill out an interest form before mid January.
