I lead fun, habitat gardening activities at Guadalupe Garden Club at Guadalupe River Park Conservancy--near Rotary Park (Coleman Ave, San Jose). Don't be fooled by the roses in the pic below--we'll learn and experiment with water conservation, riparian ecology, California pollinator plants, and grow edible plants for local amphibians and reptiles! Ever want to design your own greenroof? If you do, try plants that attract beneficial wildlife, reduce air pollution and decrease the heat in your house. Here's a new greenroof I designed for a health center in the Philippines. You can choose plants that thrive in your site. Cebu! Grow lettuce from April to June. To protect your lettuce in hot afternoons, shade your crop with burlap cloth or old rice sacks. To enrich your soil use vermicompost. Give your seedlings enough room so they can grow to full size. But closer spacing allows you to harvest leaves continuously before they reach full size.
