Flashback. Came across this picture recently circa 2004. Brings back a lot of memories. This is also around the time I started consistently practicing yoga. My first job after moving to Saigon had me in planes, trains and automobiles quite a bit. Paired with moving to a vastly different place with it's new sounds, smells and traffic circles (I do miss my scooter), it was exciting and it was also a big challenge to my nervous system. Instead of staying late at work, I s...tarted actually leaving on time so I could make it to my evening yoga class. Anytime I was on a business trip, I researched yoga studios I could visit ahead of time. Shadow yoga in Sapporo, Hot yoga in Dubai, Vinyasa in Cape Town.... and I loved that I could go anywhere in the world and drop in on a like minded community of yoga practitioners. I did have a hard time finding a yoga studio in Saudi Arabia, though I did find a nice promenade in Jeddah along the Red Sea with local women in their abaya and sneakers getting in their exercise. I have to note here that my trip throughout the Middle East was one of my favorites. While I was not allowed to be unaccompanied very often due to my sex, I made lasting friends and enjoyed the most wonderful warmth and hospitality from the people I met there. Circling back, what brought me to yoga then is what still keeps me in my practice now some 15 years later. To bring balance to my nervous system, encouraging vibrant health and expanded states of awareness. . What first brought you to your yoga practice?
