In honor of Black History month I would like to honor one of our unsung heroes, my grandfather, Wilfred Saraphian Aubert Jr. My grandfather was larger than life to our family. He was a devout catholic and a civil rights activist who supported DR. KING' S movement and vision. He was very passionate about promoting social justice and racial equality so much that he became a leader and a voice for the people in his community---the lower 9th ward in New Orleans, LA. His nam...e still echoes on the streets that he impacted and he is highly regarded for his efforts in trying to improve the education system and housing quality and conditions for African Americans. In honor of Black History month, I would like to honor my Grandfather’s legacy and the contribution that he made to the lower 9th Ward in the city of New Orleans LA. #Unsung heroes

What can I say about 2020? It was a year in which the world was suddenly stripped of a lifestyle of normalcy. When I tried to come up with one word to describe this past year, I couldn’t do it. I thought about the word challenging, but it just didn't seem like a strong enough adjective to summarize the year in its entirety. Then I thought of the word sad. However the word sad just seem too cliché’ to describe the horrific grief of losing loved ones to an unknown vi...rus. The last word that came to my mind is tough. I think we all can agree that 2020 has been a tough year, but does that word truly convey the core of emotions that one feels when faced with the fear of financial ruins and the uncertainty job security. I believe that it is literally impossible to use one solitary word to capture 2020. I believe 2020 can best be described by a collaboration of words from sadness, disgust and fear to excitement, resiliency and hope. In spite of the surprise obstacles we were faced with this year, we saw the best of humanity. We came together as one nation and worked together to help each other survive through turbulent times. It also forced us to slow down and appreciate the simple things in life. It allowed us to feel a sense of gratitude for the things we may have taken for granted. We also learned that we were stronger together as we worked on being further apart relying heavily on technology, a mask, hand sanitizer and the high demand of toilet paper. We learned that we are survivors. As I put 2020 behind me, I would like to give thanks to 2020 for helping me to refocus on all that's important in my life-- my loved ones and an amazing future.
