What makes a PLAYful, creative play space for children? Come share your ideas at the 1st ever Community Design Forum about designing world-class SF Playgrounds. The forum takes place Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (PST) at theMission Playground Clubhouse located at 19th & Linda Street in San Francisco’s Mission District. This meeting is going to held by Rec and Park regarding failing playgrounds. Although it is not specific to Merced Heights, I believ...e it will give insight as to the process that will be happening and provide additional details. Also, It may be beneficial for other community members who are interested in the Merced Heights playground renovation to attend as well. Please get the word out to interested community members, the more manpower at these meetings the better. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. Thanks, Maria Waters Office of Supervisor John Avalos 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place City Hall, Room 244 San Francisco, CA 94102

Karen Elizabeth McCoy In Memoriam by the Friends and Neighbors of Merced Heights Playground Committee... My neighbor and dear friend, Karen McCoy’s mission here on earth has been successfully completed. Karen was beautiful-inside and out. When she came into a room, she lit it up. When she spoke to you, you would feel as if you were the only one in a room. If you were fortunate enough to receive it, her smile and laughter was infectious and I think that’s the toughest part of her passingI’ll never see that smile and hear her laughter again. I will miss her every single day for the rest of my life Mary Martin Karen will be missed. She had so much energy and drive. Karen was able to unite the community with her wonderful spirit and beautiful smile. Karen will be missed. Her dedication to rebuilding Merced Heights Park and improving our neighborhood will not be forgotten Sam and Rachel Abdel About 2 years ago Karen came to the OMI-Community Action Organization meeting to request help with Merced Heights Park. She needed a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization to assist in getting an architect donated time with the One Percent Project. Since that meeting, Karen has worked untirly with OMI-CAO to make the rebuilding of Merced Heights Playground come to fruition. I hope that others who loved and believed in Karen’s dreams will join Friends and Neighbor’s of Merced Heights Playground Committee to continue in this community endeavor. Karen always believed and wrote, If you build it, they will come. Edna James
