Peer Certification is Now Law. On Friday, September 25, 2020, Governor Newsom sign SB-803 Peer Support Specialist Certification and Peer Support Services or Peer Certification which establishes standardizes the training and certification for professional peer support services. Certification also brings Peer Support to a level that meets the qualifications for Medi-Cal billing and expanding this service to Medi-Cal recipients. It validates the work and services provided by The California Peer Run Warm Line which is operated and staffed. The California Warm Line peer counselors answer over 8,000 calls and chats a month. If you want to support our work donate at mentalhealthsf.org. This year has been a stark reminder of how inadequately and disproportionately accessible our systems of support are for many members of our community, especially those most marginalized. Redefining Crazy: It's the System, Not the People is an opportunity for us to discuss what needs to change and how to make those changes. On December 11, 2020 from 5:00P-6:30P we will be meeting remotely with San Francisco Board of Supervisor, Hillary Ronen, to discuss the program Mental Health SF has created to provide more comprehensive access to mental health and substance use services for all San Franciscans. For Zoom event details or additional information, contact Peter at [email protected].

Treat everyone with compassion. You have no idea what someone might be dealing with.

Are you participating in #GivingTuesday2020? Not sure what #GivingTuesday is? Giving Tuesday is a movement created to give back to organizations making a meaningful impact in the community. If you are able to, give to a cause that really matters to you! If you are following us on social media, you are connected to the MHASF community in one way, shape, or form. Whether you are an employee, a board member, a warm line counselor, a caller, a participant in our peer support... services or peer programs, a volunteer, a mental health advocate, etc., you are part of our community. You are significant to us, and we hope you feel the same about MHASF. Today, on Giving Tuesday, we are asking you to help us continue to give to our community. Help us continue to cultivate peer leadership, build community, advance social justice, and support those in need of mental health services. Whatever you can give will help us tremendously. If you are unable to donate financially, help us continue to spread our mission to those you know and love. Your support, no matter the contribution, will make a huge difference. Thank you for your support (donate at the link in our bio )

Mental illnesses are not any less real because they are intangible. Mental illnesses are diseases, and should be acknowledge and treated as such. Your experience with mental illness is VALID, and we, at MHASF, are here to support you through every step of your healing process.

We are a Youth Team that is currently working on a statewide initiative to have transitional age youth (TAY) voices heard at all levels. As energized young adults that are looking to establish a centralized youth-specific wellness center for the city and county of San Francisco, our desire for a youth-specific wellness center was inspired through our initial team project of identifying youth needs that were not currently being met. A similar commonality that all our projects ...encapsulated was the lack of youth-specific resources in San Francisco, when there are resources, accessibility to them is limited, and when there is support for a youth wellness center, they are usually through schools and therefore plagued with various parameters while not establishing a safe and true space for youth. We would like to create a space for youth by youth, as we have been challenged finding spaces to establish our autonomy and identity within our city and county of San Francisco. This wellness center would be targeted for youth, between the ages of 15 to 26 years of age. By developing a sanctioned place for youth, our team aims to provide a safe space when you are not at work or school, educational opportunities on community resources, workforce development support, and general harm-reduction focused techniques to add to your wellness toolboxes.
