Teacher Tuesday // Chad Fuller: Tuesday @ 12pm Q: What motivated you to make the switch to teaching? A: I love to share anything that I've learned which I believe can help others! Whether that's a new app I've found, a recipe, a workout etc., if I find something useful or helpful to say, to cope with life or help me "be a better" parent/friend/husband/teammate etc, for whatever reason, I feel compelled to pass that along to others! Yoga Teaching was a natural progression of t...hat. My practice has helped me tremendously physically AND mentally so I kinda assume I'm supposed to pay that forward! Q: How do you create the sequences for your class? A: I take from others and then modify as I see fit. One thing I've realized is that there's really "nothing new" in the world. New is simply a slight variation of something old. I love taking from other instructors specifically so I can "take what I like and leave the rest. Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching yoga? A: Connecting with the community! Whether that's a newbie who's starting to connect the breathing and movement or someone who's practiced for a while and has a breakthrough in a posture or understanding of the body's position in relation to the Asana and cueing. Q: What is your favorite yoga sequence or pose? A: Birds of Paradise! It's a challenging pose because of my body but I love it! Q: What if your go-to post-workout snack? A: Kombucha. Latte. Water. Donut.

Drop a in the comments if you've ever had an "aha" moment with a pose that you've been working on for ever. Yoga is a journey and not succeeding at something the first time isn't a failure, it's just another step on that journey.

Teacher Tuesday // Chariese Craycraft: Monday @ 4:30pm, Tuesday @ 5:30pm, Wednesday @ 10:30am, Thursday @ 9am, Friday @ 12pm, and Saturday @ 4:30pm Q: How did you start practicing yoga? A: I can honestly say, I didn’t like it at first (17 years ago). A friend of mine dragged me to a class in Hawaii (when I lived there) and I was miserable. It was soooo hot and ridged. It was nothing like the classes we have at Melt. I stayed far away for a solid decade and a half. Then I ga...ve it another try when my friend got her 200 hour certification. I realized then that there were different styles of yoga and the experience was linked to the tone of the teacher and where the person is in life. Fast forward and I found myself diving into the practice. I think I really found the connection with my practice during my teacher training. It was a combination of where I was in life, the people I was training with & the space we learned in (at Melt). Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching yoga? A: The energy shift. It’s the gift we give each other when we practice collectively. Knowing that my presence in someone else’s 60 minutes can lift our students’ mood for the rest of the day is my favorite thing about teaching. Q: What is your favorite yoga sequence? A: Anything that feels like a fluid dance with an element of balance. There’s a sense of freedom when the pose happens and harmony when you transition. Q: What is one thing your students probably don’t know about you? A: I love animals. I’ve had mice and rats as pets... rabbits, cats, dogs. Currently I have a rabbit names Waffles and a dog named Peppermint who reside in my home and both are very much part of the family, and yes I do have conversations with both of them every day. Q: Where can we find you when you’re not teaching? A: I’m usually with my kids, we are homeschoolers & I am a teacher to my exceptional 4th grader & curious kindergartner.

Raise your hand if you’ve been guilty of skipping a class because you got too busy . As we head into the holiday season, it’s easy to get out of your routine and not focus on self-care like yoga. Taking care of yourself first makes you a better friend to others so make sure not to put your practice on the back burner. Our team has a few tips for helping you to keep yoga a part of your daily life. * Schedule it: Schedule your class on your calendar like you woul...d a meeting or an appointment. You wouldn’t want to cancel on your boss, so don’t cancel on taking care of yourself. * Set a reminder: Use a reminder app to send yourself a notification each night to book your yoga class for the following day. This works well if you’re the type who loves crossing things off their to-do list! * Have a buddy: Committing to taking a class with a friend gives you the accountability you need to get your mat in the room. There’s strength in (socially distanced) numbers! * Reward yourself: If you’ve been making progress towards your weekly or monthly goal of yoga sessions, treat yourself. Whether that’s buying a new workout shirt, ordering Starbucks, or even just allowing yourself to watch an episode of your favorite show, you deserve to pat yourself on the back for your commitment. * Try another format: Can’t get yourself out the door? Too busy to drive to the studio? Join our live or on-demand classes to practice in the comfort of your own home. What steps will you take to stay consistent? Let us know below! See more

Teacher Tuesday // James Sublette: Tuesday @ 9am, Thursday @ 7pm, Friday @ 10:30am, and Sunday @ 9am and 10:30am Q: How did you start practicing yoga? A: I had a lower back injury which possibly needed surgery... after 6 months of PT and doctor visits, a wise doctor told me my flexibility could be the root of the problem. A couple of weeks in and the pain and discomfort was better than it had been since the injury. I was hooked. ... Q: What motivated you to make the switch to teaching? A: I was already teaching my swimmers yoga to improve shoulder and hip stability ( I also coach swimming). I started working on my own program for swimming and had the time to do a Teacher Training (TT)... so I took the opportunity and loved the experience. After TT I wanted to see if I could take it further and continued to teach and expand my training and teaching levels. I still use yoga with swim clients. Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching yoga? A: Making someone’s day better or brighter... the good thing about yoga is people choose to come, they are open to pushing or to be inspired. It’s mutual respect in the sense that I don’t know how their body is feeling or mind is at... but they give the effort they can afford at that moment. It is a beautiful give and take that keeps me motivated to teach. Q: What is one piece of advice that you would give to new yogis? A: Trust the process as well as yourself. Yoga is a practice and you are your own best teacher. Q: What is one thing your students probably don't know about you? A: I’m half Colombian... so if you’re speaking Spanish around me... I hear you!
