I’m so excited to announce the official launch of Mending Mothers-a non-profit organization providing no-cost and donation based support services to mothers during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum. What better day to debut this mission than Mother’s Day?! Also my own mother Joy Bollard is on the board so how special is that?! ... Mending Mother’s provides no-cost/donation suggested Music Therapy Assisted childbirth services and/or up to 10 free postpartum Music Therapy sessions (at home or via Skype) to mothers. We prioritize mamas Thank who have limited resources for with our outreach efforts. Music Therapy can aid in pain management, anxiety management, bonding and infant development. Music Therapy sessions with a credentialed Music Therapist provide a powerful, safe and supportive way to process emotions related to pregnancy, delivery and the transition into motherhood. We also provide no-cost postpartum Reiki services, additional self-care resources, events/workshops and plan to expand our support offerings in the future as we grow. Mothers may request for services or be nominated by a loved one. Music Therapists and Reiki Practioners can apply to be hired as a part of our network (this is paid not volunteer). MTACB certified and Music Therapists with maternity and infant experience preferred. Our 501(c)(3) status is still underway but should be approved any day now-and we just couldn’t resist launching on Mother’s Day! I'm so excited to have recently been asked to be on the board of an amazing non-profit, @umoja global community music therapy This organization helps to build sustainable therapeutic music programs abroad in underserved areas. Umoja has already done incredible work in its first five years of operation and I'm really excited to be a part of this team and am very passionate about the mission. We are going on a volunteer trip to Kenya and Uganda this August to connect with the ...community and help to organize sustainable programs aimed at continually striving for wellness and healing through the power of music . I'm raising funds to help us in our quest to travel and meet with as many community members and organizations as possible who may benefit from exchanging experiences and information with us -all with the overarching goal of advocating for healing and using the power music as an effective and accessible modality. Umoja provides outreach to the special needs population, medical institutions, gender based violence prevention programs, trauma informed programs, women's empowerment programs, disadvantaged and impoverished youth and adults, women living with HIV and ex-child soldier survivors. Some examples of organizations that Umoja currently collaborates with include; SHOFCO, Kazuri, The Nest, Faraja Cancer Support, Buds to Blossoms, Hill Preparatory School, Nyali Music School, Ignite Afrika Trust, St Gertrude's Children's Hospital, Kenyatta National and Centre and KNH quality Health Care. This will be my first trip with Umoja Global (I couldn't go last year because I was pregnant) so this is long awaited for me personally and I couldn't be more excited to learn from the experience and share and exchange ideas across the world. Umoja Global collaborates with existing healers, educators and musicians in the community and demonstrates evidenced based music interventions to help enhance the therapeutic impact of current methods being used. Connection is maintained throughout the year through skype sessions, regular communication and our trips. Umoja Global strives to uphold cultural humility, empathy and integrity in every single exchange. Any support/shares are so greatly appreciated. Thank you thank you! <3

Pamela received Music Therapy while on strict inpatient bed rest for 5 weeks due to premature membrane rupture. In addition to participating in personal emotional processing interventions during Music Therapy sessions-she also helped to create her own personalized nightly music routine aimed at relaxation, delivery preparation and bonding and she... also created her own personalized song for her little one that was sung to him everyday in the womb and everyday on the NICU after he was born. This same personalized lullaby was also used with the PAL device in Music Therapy sessions as positive reinforcement to encourage strengthened oral feed, relaxation and more bonding This is an example of the continuation of care that we are very excited to improve upon this year at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital as we expand to offer more services to maternity & antepartum and more caregiver support. (And yes I’m 41 weeks pregnant in this video and look like I’m about to burst ). See more
