SJSU has been named the "Most Transformative" College in the US by Money Magazine. It has also been ranked #30 among best engineering schools (MIT, not surprisingly, took the top spot there). http://blogs.sjsu.edu//sjsu-ranked-1-most-transformative/

Congratulations to ME Class of 2020! "I want to give you my heartfelt congratulations on your graduation! From Calculus I through your senior design project, you have completed one of the toughest programs on campus. You should be very proud of your accomplishment. Your achievements this past year, such as the first place finish in ASME’s Old Guard poster competition and a second place win at a student AIAA conference, show that you can compete with the best. You are graduat...ing at a time of great change, when STEM-trained graduates with hands-on skills will be needed to make a difference in the Bay Area and the world. This year you’ve dealt with difficulties and disappointments SAE vehicles that you couldn’t bring to competition and senior design projects that you couldn’t build due to Covid-19. This experience is just the first of many of the changes to come that we cannot imagine. But with your education and tenacity to achieve, as you have shown by your graduation, you will be able to help shape those changes. As you go through it all, please remember those of us staying behind at SJSU find us on Facebook, and stop by now and then to say hello. Congratulations!" Dr.Nicole Okamoto See more

Congratulations Dr. Zaidi! Outstanding Lecturer Syed Sohail Zaidi, Mechanical Engineering Born and raised in a small town in Pakistan, Dr. Syed Zaidi migrated to the United Kingdom for graduate studies. After completing his Ph.D. at Cranfield University, he worked in the Rolls Royce Technology center in Nottingham University, then served as a research scientist at Princeton University from 1999 to 2012. He followed this by working as a plasma research scientist at Agilent in ...Santa Clara. Syed started teaching at San José State, attracted to its diversity and multicultural environment. "I see students coming from both ends of the spectrum from highly rated to poorly equipped schools," he said. "I see students who work very hard at SJSU while working part-time generating funds for their studies. I feel fortunate to help them to complete their studies and successfully enter their professional careers. Teaching is my passion. Nothing is more prestigious than educating our next generation and serving the community where we live our lives." Syed established an academy that educates high school students and prepares them for scientific research. When not teaching and reading, he listens to traditional music and enjoys watching old movies. See more

We could not be prouder of our graduating team members. We cannot thank you guys and girls enough for the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve put into this team. You... will always be a member of Spartan Racing, and your work will be preserved. Surmounting the academic challenges at San Jose State University alone deserves praise and recognition. Adding a complex technical project that obligates countless hours and total commitment deserves applause and adulation. Doing it all in the midst of a global pandemic deserves the World. We are all extremely disappointed that you cannot see your hard work culminate in a finished, living vehicle. But rest assured, we will complete the car in the coming months. We will take your vision and make it a loud and fast reality. We will even think of you while we enjoy driving it. And we know who to call when it breaks. This team is made up from people that come from all walks of life. We all have different beliefs, backgrounds, and interests, but we came together on this team to share a common goal -- to win, to build the best car that we could. But, the truth is that in the process, we became friends, we became a family, and that's what makes this team special. We are forever grateful to have you all as a part of the Spartan Racing family, and hope that wherever your next steps take you in life, you choose to remain a part of it. Congratulations graduates! Wishing you all a first place on your journey: Andrew Cruz, Andy Wong, Brandon Baeza, Chris Arzadon, Colin Kwan, Dan Foster, Daniel Gu, Jim Brahney, Mathew Blackburn, Nate Silva, Takafumi Nojima, Will Stryker, Yongmoon.

Our ME Student, Ankish Priet, won the first place in the ASME Old Guard Oral Competition on April 25's ASME E-Fests. He also won the best technical content Award. This year, ASME merged "South" and "North" together and created a 2020 "digital" version of the Oral Competition. Students were required to submit a 15-minutes technical competition on the topic of their choice. Two first winners were chosen (one for "South", the other for "North"). Click https://www.youtube.com.../watch?v=cgZlkXALfC0 for the ASME E-Fest Award Ceremony to see Ankish's awards. Specially this year, the ASME Old Guard Committee served the judges (instead of the local engineers served the judges before). Ankish presented a lawn mower robot auto-pilot, localization, and control and being able to achieve of 2 cm accuracy using GPS positioning/communication system. He currently works with Prof. James Mokri on the project. Congratulations to James as well! Thank Profs. Furman, Mokri, and Viswanathan for recommending three students, which allowed me to choose two of them and coach them for preparing and entering the competition. Thank Chair Nicole for her support from the Department as well (although this time there were no travel expenses involved). This is the only competition our students attended in E-Fests.
