Never, ever forget the importance of two character traits of great engineers: passion and practical, hands-on experience. If the t-shirt is dirty, it's a good sign. Great engineers solve problems and create new opportunities. Mechanics repair what is broken. How cool when you have both in one person!
This is why we have engineers. A good one listens beyond the words of a customer and digs deep. Great engineers love mysteries and dig into them like a pitbull hunting in the yard for a bone!
Another one bites the dust. Irwindale Speedway will close permanently in January 2018, making way for guess what? A shopping mall. A shopping mall in the middle of gravel pits you ask? Yes. Can you think of anything more appealing?
Here it is, a sneak peek at the long-rumored mid-engine Corvette. We hear rumblings it may debut at the LA Auto Show. Wouldn't that be neat?
Looking for a customer who wants us to build him or her an LT1 powered Cadillac ATS or CT6. Let us know if you've got the car and the inspiration. We've got the expertise and passion.
Just when you think sales of electric vehicles can only go up, there's this: a prediction that the price of raw copper is about to skyrocket. What does this have to do with electric vehicles? There is four times more copper used in the manufacture of electric-powered vehicles than those with internal combustion engines. If copper costs surge, the cost of electric vehicles will follow. There's a lot more to making alternative propulsion vehicles viable than the cost of gasoline or the environmental impact. More from us on this later ...
We spotted one of these buzzing around Rochester Hills, Michigan today. It's pretty sweet. The round taillights are a throwback to previous iterations of the Corvette.
We're glad they are doing this and not us!

Here's the McPhail Performance Engineering 30-second review of the 2016 Camaro SS Mark drove to Las Vegas and back last week: It has the best powertrain on a ...Camaro, ever with a great balance of low speed torque with horsepower to 6500 RPM. The built-in air/oil separator that self-drains into the oil pan is awesome and keeps oil vapor from depositing on intake valves. This is critical on direct-injected engines since fuel is no longer sprayed onto the intake valve which would tend to clean off oil residue. What a surprise that it knocked down 27 mpg at 75 mph thanks to active fuel management that turns off four cylinders under cruising conditions. How's that for having your cake and eating it, too? The neat 8-speed automatic transmission facilitates great downshifts at highway speeds, leading to Bonneville speeds quickly. The first gear ratio of the transmission begs for factory installed drag radials!!! :) The 2016 Camaro SS delivers outstanding, Corvette-level performance. Well done. Three thumbs up!
In our family, renting a 2016 Camaro to drive to the SEMA show in Las Vegas is ... research!
