In the last flock of endangered African grey parrots that arrived at the centre, one individual was suffering from a fungal infection that caused part of his be...ak to break and fall off. Luckily, parrots can regenerate their beaks and after he received special medical treatment from our vet team, his beak grew back! Then finally after months of special care, he made a full recovery, was able to eat by himself again and made his way to the big rehabilitation aviary with the rest of the flock, where he is being prepared to be released! At the centre, we put in our best efforts for every individual, to give them the best live and chance of being released.

Did you know that the keratin layer of the beak (called the rhamphotheca) can grow at a rate of - inch per month? It is important to offer parrots a variety ...of options to chew in order to naturally wear down the beak and keep it well groomed. This can include options to climb and open food items (like shelled nuts in moderation), as well as offering a variety of destructible toys and natural perches. #AAVEnrichmentTip See more

If anyone has chickens, I built this feeder years ago and LOVE it! It’s 4 inch PVC 90s facing downward into this trashcan. I can dump two 50lb bags of feed and ...leave it for weeks. It is my easiest chicken tool and saves tons of feed because they can’t scratch and throw it Works for ducks and turkeys too! See more

Last week I saw this beautiful and inspiring video of a cockatoo performing an amazing piece for toy piano, and I just had to join in the fun. We transcribed it... and made a video with Logan Kane and Anthony Fung - hope you enjoy it as much as we did! BOOM KANE FUNG DISCLAIMER: BOOM KANE FUNG does not own the original video or music of THE BIRD. We are simply inspired by its compositional ingenuity and the power of music to transcend species. If you follow 911 Parrot Alert, you will see daily that parrots escape from their owners. Most of the missing photos the owners post are of their parrots outsid...e without a harness or a cage. People get false security that their parrot wouldn’t fly away or because the wings are clipped that they can’t fly away. It’s our responsibility to keep them safe. See more

The Great Great Green Macaw (Ara ambiguus), is also known as the Buffon’s Macaw or the Great Military Macaw. It is often confused with the Military Macaw (Ara militaris) which is slightly smaller and has various minor facial and color differences!

**PLEASE BE AWARE -- UPDATE -- NOVEMBER WARNING!! Thanksgiving holiday is coming up, and so I just wanted to inform and/ or remind everyone out there to please... DO NOT USE TURKEY-ROASTING BAGS!! They have been determined unsafe for use around birds (your indoor pet birds, that is..) . There are documented cases of birds having died during use of these products. It is not worth the risk!! *PLEASE BE AWARE* There is a newer non-stick foil being marketed that is NOT SAFE for cooking with birds in the house. This comes in all store brands too, so please note the label when you make your purchase! *Edit *-- I have had some inquiries as to why the non-stick foil is unsafe. While the makers of Reynolds Wrap brand state their brand is teflon free, there are silicones used that are still considered unsafe as coatings on cookware, where birds are concerned. There is plenty of discussion on parrot groups and boards in support of this finding. It is the general consensus that all non- stick coatings are not safe for birds.
