Not only are we flattered that AVRP Studios acknowledges our work and collaboration during #worldlandscapearchitecturemonth, but it's also *really nice* to see an architecture firm celebrate #WLAM with us and our peers!

We hope you appreciate this perspective from Zeek Magallanes on how we as landscape architects can lead in adapting outdoor spaces to new conditions created by social distancing. He breaks down concepts of both horizontal and vertical space, and underscores it with an important reminder that exterior open-air places have been and will always be the best suited for human interaction. #LandscapeArchitecture #WLAM #outdoorspaces http://mlasd.com//spatial-thinking-in-a-post-covid-19-wor/

A super interesting read on transformation of post-World War II housing exemplified in historic La Mesa, where higher end, in-fill developments, like Shasta Homes, become the next wave of residential development. Read how we tackled landscape goals, privacy through plant materials and storm water run-off to find a balance between private and social space with landscape. As this area of La Mesa gentrifies, and becomes home to the next generation, we feel we have helped contrib...ute towards something special here. http://mlasd.com/news/the-next-housing-wave-builds #landscapearchitecture #nature #housing #SanDiego #LaMesa

From our Principal David McCullough I was fortunate to use my design skills to bring the exterior landscape architecture to life in the reinvention of Oscar’s Brewing Company - Oscars' Brewing Company with PGAL He talks about the design process, charrettes that uncover new possibilities and the collective creativity that leads to built environment spaces that are creative, visually surprising and user-centric. Even an old VW bus makes OBC a modern, edgy family restaurant that gives customers a unique dining experience. Design is at the very heart of our passion, but having the opportunity to bring our experience to a wide audience for sustainable garden practices made this project a double winner writes Nabyl Miller, Studio Design Leader. Read her story designing a new Water Wise Garden for the Helix Water District in La Mesa http://mlasd.com/news/walk-like-they-talk Four pillars informed our design: Limit turf, rainwater as a resource, native and low-water-use plants and hydro zones. The project comprised of four garden typologies, and we were able to incorporate an educational experience for employees and visitors. #waterwise #waterconservation #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign

A few Qs have come up re the water feature as part of our Midway Sports & Entertainment District plan. As you can see by the illustrative site plan and perspective shown here, there is a waterway that runs down the middle of the site. This water feature is a "nod" to a historically-accurate waterway from San Diego Bay that existed until the 20th Century. It was then that it was re-channelized to empty to the Pacific Ocean. In our plan, there will NOT be a connection to the ex...isting river or San Diego Bay. However, it will serve as a functional storm water retention facility on-site (in addition to being an active and pleasant aesthetic component), which is a requirement by the State of CA. In addition, The Stitch (refer to pg 19 of our proposal) also provides the "Big Idea" of a long-term pedestrian connection opportunity (think green-belt) at the end of the water feature to the beach areas and San Diego River, as listed in the current Midway Community Plan. The water may not connect, but the people will. :) This is one of the many reasons, this plan is for San Diego! It's not too late to vote for our project - deadline is Mon 7/20: https://lnkd.in/gFcXmG3 #msed4sd #redevelopment #greenbelt #SanDiegoRiver #SanDiegohistory #historiclandscapes #whatsbestforSanDiego David McCullough Catherine Graber McCullough Frank Wolden David Malmuth MSED 4 SD See more
