McCloud Mountain Bluegrass 05.06.2021

It is with sincere regret that we must announce that McCloud Mountain Bluegrass will be postponed another year. We had high hopes, but with continuing restrictions on businesses and events in Siskiyou County, we are unable to make the financial and manpower commitments needed now to ensure a successful event in September We are especially disappointed for the talented musicians we had hoped to feature, as they are struggling as much as anyone through this pandemic. If you can find it in your hearts and pocketbooks to contribute to these artists in other ways (follow them on social media, buy their albums, tell your friends, contribute to non-profits supporting the gig economy) please do so!!

It is with profound regret that we must announce the cancellation of McCloud Mountain Bluegrass 2020, but we are pleased at the same time to announce our dates for next year - September 16-19, 2021. This was a very difficult decision taken by the McCloud Chamber of Commerce. Our reasons for making this decision now are: * According to current state and county COVID-19 public health guidelines, MMBG falls into Stage 4, reopening of high-risk large gathering events like concer...ts appear to be months away. * Ongoing public uncertainty regarding attendance at large group gatherings makes it unlikely that we can cover our costs. * Due to the current economic situation, it is doubtful that we could secure sponsorships and donations from local companies, on which we depend to finance a portion of the event. * MMBG depends on the time and effort of volunteers, many of whom are abiding by stay-at-home and safer-at-home protocols. Needless to say, we are disappointed beyond words and know well that you are also affected by the pandemic. We look forward to better times, and a hugely successful McCloud Mountain Bluegrass 2021! Here we are with another little tid-bit of info: Rock Stacking is a problem in National Parks. This little guide is called Don't Be A Cairn which is funny becau...se it sounds like don't be a Karen. Puns are neat! "But Phill." you say "what is the deal? Well, listen to this: Photos courtesy of the NPS. All this info is easily available from the NPS. Special note: slide 2 is a pic of an OFFICIAL CAIRN. I used that to emphasise the point of number 2. It's Selfish Creating multiple cairns dilutes the original purpose. Many parks use official cairns as trail markers and guides- building unneeded ones can cause confusion and other issues. What more, pervasive rock stacking takes away from the experience of others and communicates that "your mark" or "good vibes" is more important than the natural beauty. It's vandalism "be aware that (rocks stacking) it is considered by the National Park Service as a form of vandalism and it is illegal." - NPS It's destructive: "Moving rocks disturbs the soil and makes the area more prone to erosion. Disturbing rocks also disturbs fragile vegetation and micro ecosystems." - NPS is a cairn here or there the end of the world? No. Are hundreds and thousands a problem? You betcha. If you must build a cairn, do some rock art in the comfort of your own yard. hugs and kisses
