Last month, after many difficult months negotiating with an unwilling landlord, I made the decision to officially close the doors of our beloved MMS in the Lower Haight. Two nights ago, I sat on the floor of the empty space... the pianos had been moved out, the art taken off the walls, and the countless music books and sheet music stored safely away. The only thing that remained was the inspirational chalkboard wall in the middle of the room, still boasting proudly the notes ...of wisdom and encouragement that it had collected from our teachers and students over the last five years. As I looked around at the empty space, I remembered the exact moment when I sat in that empty room 5 years ago and imagined everything that MMS would become. I imagined what the space would sound like with music flowing through it. I imagined the teachers and students that would come to be a part of our community. I imagined the events that would bring us together to share joy through music. All of these moments and more came to fruition. Spent the day on Saturday in Staff training - sharing ideas with these amazing MMS teachers. These teachers are not only talented, but they have true hearts of educators. They care deeply about their students and want the best for their development, well-being, and musicianship! We are honored to bring music into so many homes this Fall. We are committed to serving our students, particularly the parents who are now tasked with having their children learning from home each day. Our goal is to bring joy, happiness, inspiration, beauty, and love through music to our students each and every day. Semester begins TODAY! Sending love to all of you starting school today and in the coming weeks. It will be a new challenge but I know we can all get through this by supporting each other! We are ready and we are excited!
