When I was a little girl I complained so much about how much I hated my name my mom almost took me to the courthouse to change it. I was so upset nobody else shared my name in school. I wanted to be named Elizabeth. It was the Queens name and so I felt it was very fitting. As I got older I learned to love my name. I was named after my father’s grandmother. She has been described to me as a strong, independent woman who, for her day, was a force to be reckoned with. Now I feel honored to share her name. When I meet other Serena’s I cannot help but side eye them and think they aren’t worthy of the name. Serena is suppose to mean serene I am still working on that part.

Carmel & Pacific Grove have always been special places to me. When my parents divorced my Dad moved to PG and I remember wonderful visits with him, exploring the area and watching sunsets on the beach. Fast forward 30 years Kale asked me to marry him here. We try to visit a couple times a year alone and with family especially the hot summer months in Sacramento. It has always felt like a second home.. we have our regular spots we always visit and love to explore new ones. Where is your special place?

It’s been almost a week since Taste of East Sac and I think I have finally recovered! The East Sacramento Chamber Board members, volunteers, sponsors and Ah-mazing vendors made the 11th Annual Taste a big success. It was such an honor for the fourth year in a row be involved in planning and coordinating The Taste of East Sacramento. The East Sacramento Chamber started this event over 11 years ago and in that time with the help of many volunteers, sponsors and some amazing restaurants, breweries, grocery stores, wineries and more.. this event has turned into an East Sacramento favorite. Small locally owned businesses make our community unique and being able to get so many of them into one room for a night is a lot of work... but in the end very rewarding. Thank you to everyone who helped and participated in Taste and remember to eat, shop and play in #eastsac.

Front porch sitting is one of my favorite things to do with my family on these warms summer evenings. Last night we shared belly laughs talking about our week, making future plans and drinking lots of wine.
