#TBT: Celeste’s Story Around Thanksgiving this past year, Maryvale employees received a call from Joe sharing a story about his nine year-old daughter Celeste. Like many of us, Celeste was feeling a little distant from friends and family due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of getting down on herself, Celeste decided to share her good fortune and give back to children in need by donating to Maryvale! She reached out to friends and family and started a GoFundMe page t...o collect over $1,000 in donations to help Maryvale’s children and families during the holidays. While her parents fully supported her efforts, Celeste did everything herself. Please join us in thanking Celeste for her inspiring selflessness during these difficult times, and for helping Maryvale to continue to heal, empower and educate children and families through our Early Education and Community-Based Services To help support Maryvale’s mission like Celeste, visit https://www.maryvale.org/support-programs.

A Special Maryvale Community Shoutout! As we look back on the Holiday Season, we want to give thanks to the people and organizations that make Maryvale’s mission possible. Today, Maryvale would like to give special thanks to Associated Luxury Hotels International’s (ALHI) Amber Voelker (pictured below) for engaging her colleagues, friends and co-workers to help raise money to support Maryvale this past Holiday Season.... In addition to generously donating and raising over $1500 to support Maryvale’s holiday fundraising efforts, Amber worked with her father-in-law (and of course Maryvale’s close personal friend Santa Claus) to virtually visit some of our families and ensure everyone got what they wanted this year! Thank you to Amber Voelker and ALHI for all that you do, and for providing inspiration for us all to give back however we can in the New Year! #Maryvale #givingback

#TBT: In 1633, St. Vincent de Paul reached out to assist those in need through simple acts of kindness. His efforts, along with those of St. Louise de Marillac, ultimately shaped the following Vincentian Core Values that help guide Maryvale and its mission today: to heal, empower and educate children and families to instill hope for more fulfilling futures. - Respect: Recognizing our own value and the value of others. - Compassionate Service: Providing excellent care with ge...ntleness and kindness. - Simplicity: Acting with integrity, clarity and honesty. - Advocacy for the Poor: Supporting those who lack resources for a healthy life and full human development. - Inventiveness to Infinity: Being continuously resourceful and creative. #TBT: Last week, Maryvale celebrated the foundation of the Daughters of Charity on November 29, 1633. The Daughters of Charity (pictured below) are an international community of Catholic women established in 1633 by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac to serve the poorest of the poor. They helped found Maryvale in January of 1856, officially opening Los Angeles’ first orphanage and hospital in the small wood-frame Wilson Home on the site where Union Station stands today. Today, the Daughters of Charity is made up of more than 19,000 Catholic women who minister worldwide to the sick and the poor.
