Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders announced Wednesday that they have agreed to provide low-income Californians a $600 state stimulus payment to help them weather financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic, part of a $9.6-billion economic recovery package that also includes $2.1 billion in grants for small businesses." https://www.latimes.com//newsom-covid-19-stimulus-agreemen

From Supervisor Hillary Ronen: Relief for the People of the Mission After months of work, prodding, advocacy, and planning, today the City’s Healthy Streets Center and Homeless Outreach Team are out in the Mission inviting unhoused people to move from the Street into either Shelter In Place Hotels (if especially vulnerable to COVID), the newly opened Safe Sleeping Village at 1515 South Van Ness, or one of the congregate shelters or Nav Centers that is properly socially distan...ced. Not only will this effort save people’s lives but the neighborhood as a whole will get some relief from crowded sidewalks and other public health consequences of the unhoused population sleeping in residential streets. These are long term placements no one will be asked to leave the safer option where access to food, bathrooms, showers, and services are available. This is a major win. I want to especially thank Paul Monge from my office who has spearheaded this effort, the Latino Task Force for advocating to secure these essential resources, Dolores Street Community Services and its wonderful staff for operating the Safe Sleeping Village, Diana Ponce de Leon who has worked tirelessly to coordinate this important work and all the other incredible City workers from so many different departments who do this critical lifesaving work everyday.
Prop C, the 2018 initiative that taxes wealthy San Francisco businesses to pay for homeless services, became law Wednesday after the California Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to it. Prop C, which implements a 0.5% tax on businesses making over $50 million a year, passed in 2018 with more than 61 percent of the vote. The city can [now] collect an estimated $300 million in fees for services supporting San Francisco’s homeless population.... https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com//san-francisco-homeless/
It’s so dark outside today that we set up lights to help guide our guests home. Apocalypse or shine, the soup gets served!
At Martin’s we’ve been partnering with two organizations. We thank Sankara Healthcare Foundation, Inc. for continuing to generously sponsor two planted-based meals every month. In addition, we work with El Pipila Restaurant on Brannan St to make burritos for our guests once per week. This past week those days aligned for a truly special meal for our guests
