Join us tomorrow, Wednesday 12/16, for an Instagram Live with Laurent Noblet, Sales Director USA & Canada for @domainelaporte at: 9 am PST 11 am CST 12 pm EST... Founded in 1850 in the heart of the Loire Valley's prestigious Sancerre appellation, Domaine Laporte was run until 1986 by René Laporte. A visionary chair of the Sancerre appellation for 20 years, René was a pioneer in producing low-yield, high-quality Sancerre during a time of overproduction. A well-known winegrower from Chavignol, Henri Bourgeois purchased the Domaine from René, keeping the original vineyards, cellar, and house. The legacy continues under Henri's two grandsons, Arnaud, and Cedric Bourgeois. Domaine Laporte sits on the edge of a valley known as La Cassure de Sancerre. This unique geological formation is divided into two distinct soil types: limestone hills on one side of the valley, flint hills on the opposite side. The grapes grown, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are vinified according to the kind of soil. Laporte's great pride is their 'Domaine du Rochoy', 10 hectares of vineyards famous for its history and exceptional Flint soil, known as 'Silex.' Le Rochoy is the only monopole vineyard in Sancerre. It was formerly a quarry Gallo-Roman called 'Rochetum'. Located at the edge of the Catonis Villa overhanging the Loire river the site is protected by forest at the top of the hill. The sloping flint hillside basks in the sunlight absorbing the heat of the day and restoring itself under the cool of night. In addition, a small section is planted to Pinot Noir, on the site known as 'Les Royaux'. Le Grand Rochoy is produced from a 2.8 ha parcel in the best section of the vineyard. This careful respect for soil typicity gives each wine an individual expression and personality.
