@Rubbish2Runway showcases wearable art to raise funds for Long Way Home ( @lwhome_org ), an organization that demonstrates the practical repurposing of waste into self-sufficient schools and buildings. Talented artists select materials that others discard and repurpose them into wildly creative garments that Rubbish models then rock on the runway. For a recent show/fundraiser in Lynn Massachusetts, Melissa, mother and designer, repurposed their old Marmot tent and rain fly wi...thout having to purchase any new material. The result were 3 incredibly beautiful dresses to showcase. There are so many ways to repurpose old equipment you have stored in your home. Meet ambassador @Sara.Gemmell! She is an incredible adventurer based in Salt Lake City, Utah who classifies herself as a weekend warrior while pursing a career in the medical field. There is no adventure she holds herself back from. Get to know her with a few questions we asked her! What was the first outdoor adventure you ever had?... Camping as a family in our pop-up camper all over northern Michigan starting when I was around 5. Each summer my parents would load my younger brother and I up and we would venture out to explore a new area or kayak a river we hadn't. Who helped you learn about the outdoors? My parents. Specifically my dad from his dad who spent his childhood on rivers, fly fishing and canoeing all over Michigan with his dad. What is your favorite thing to do outside? Ski. There is no place I feel more like myself than on skis. Best advice to someone new to outdoor adventure? CAR CAMPING. Car camping is such an easy way to ease into outdoor adventure - you can pack so many luxuries but still explore some pretty neat places Favorite quote "There's a sunrise and a sunset every single day and they are absolutely free. We met Ruedi (our guide) at Durrand Glacier. He’s clearly an old man, but there’s nothing about him that implies his body is aware of his age, except maybe his weather face. He moves quickly, smiles brightly, speaks sharply, and is obviously the brains behind this entire operation. He's blunt, keeps you out of trouble and knows the mountains as well as the wind.
