Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose 1885-1886 Tate Gallery, London, England Oil on canvas 174 x 153.8 cm (68 1/2 x 60 1/2 in.... #johnsingersargent The children lighting lanterns are Dolly (left) and Polly (right) Barnard. Their father, illustrator Frederick Barnard, was friends with Sargent. It was painted in a garden in Broadway, a village in south west England where Sargent stayed in the summer of 1885. Sargent wanted to paint from real life. There were only a few minutes each evening where the light was right. He would place his easel and paints, pose the models beforehand, and wait for the right moment to start. As summer ended and the flowers died, he replaced them with pot plants.

I’ve been working on some oil paintings to pass the time, which I seem to have a lot of these days.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year's Congressional Art Competition looked a little different than previous years. I want to thank all of the CA-31 students ...who participated virtually, and say how proud I am of the talent that our region's students possess. This year's third place winner is Eliana Jackson, a junior at Wilmer Amina Carter High School. Her submission, "Angelic" will be displayed in my San Bernardino office until next year's competition. Yesterday our annual artist reception for our member's exhibition at the CCMA and awards ceremony. I was honored to be the recipient of this year's, 2019 Guy Ne...well Memorial Award for my art piece " Autocrat ". This was very special to me. Guy Newell was an amazing person and late brother of Aleta Jacobson, talented himself in so many ways and very involved in many art organizations including CCMA. Aleta Jacobson, herself is much the same way, not only a talented artist in the community but always giving back with her talents and inspiration to others finding their own journey. Listening to Aleta speak so kindy of her brother and his love of the arts makes this award even more special. The turnout for the reception and art celebration was amazing. Thank you @elkslodge1419 for being our sponsor for this years member exhibition. 136 pieces of amazing art from artists members from our area included in this exhibition, it runs all the way until January 18, 2020, at the Chaffey Community Museum of Art, located in downtown Ontario CA. You can view this exhibition free to the public, Thursday-Sunday 12-4 pm. PS , Many of you at the AAIE are members at the CCMA , and we hope this upcoming year more of you will be members as the AAIE is going to be invited to have an exhibition at the CCMA in the Fall of 2020, giving you plenty of time to create a new dynamic, never been seen piece of art !
