The MSA is trying something new this year.... a trip to Hawaii. We will be staying at a beautiful camp with bunkhouses right on the beach on the North Shore of Oahu. Now before you all volunteer to chaperone... we will be supervising snorkeling and kayaking... you cannot opt out of those activities. .. we will visit Iolani Palace, missionary homes and Pearl Harbor, don't say you're too tired. We cruise out to a marine research facility on Coconut Island... the Polynesian Cultural Center should be a great multi cultural experience with a wild luau at night...plus some swimming in the ocean cliff jumping and a friendly ROV competition. This should be a very taxing week for the chaperones but a great experience for the students! And don't even THINK about slipping away for a little romantic liason with your spouse! Ain't gonna happen!
Dec. 15: We DID take our trip out to Santa Cruz Island, but no kayaking this time. We did see a Gray Whale and a bunch of dolphins.
Dec. 12: The MSA had a great trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the San Francisco Academy of Sciences! We also visited the Long Lab at UC Santa Cruz, toured Cal State Monterey Bay, and walked on the Golden Gate Bridge.
We are planning a trip out to Santa Cruz Island on Dec. 16. Kayaking anyone?
The Marine Science Academy has been quite busy this year with GIS - geospatial technologies..creating map applications online using GPS coordinates. The seniors are working on a huge plastic reduction program at our high school sponsored by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Sophomores will be heading to the Aquarium Dec. 12 as well as visiting Cal State Monterey Bay and UC Santa Cruz. We also visit the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas.
Various pictures taken by Mr. Blumenthal from '09-'11
Meagan Anthony - sorry it took so long to get the link up to Blumenthal's pics!!! But It's there now. I didn't look to see what he has... busy with birthdays...etc. CHECK IT OUT FOR ME!
We are currently placing orders for MSA t-shirts, hoodies, and possibly hats... maybe even beanies!!! Perhaps we could do something with Science Club as well!
