We're sorry about our short hiatus. We were going to pull the plug on this new found site due to budget cuts, but fortunately we found funds to keep it alive! Unfortunately we will only update the site 2 or 3 times a week instead of the traditional five days a week. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will be full of fun facts and trips down memory lane! Please post on our wall if you're interested in being featured as our "Student Of The Day" - Have a fun and safe weekend MARINERS!!!

MDR FACT OF THE DAY - Tuesday, October 12, 2010 - Did you know the Television and Motion Picture Actress, Kyla Pratt attended Marina Del Rey Middle School? Kyla Pratt arrived at MDR in 1997. Already appearing in television roles as a child actress, Kyla Pratt was never arrogant about her accomplishments. Kyla blended in with all of her peers and after graduating from Marina in 2000, she continued her education at Alexander Hamiltion High School. We here at Marina are proud of all of your accomplishments. You make us proud! Kyla Pratt, Class of 2000.

STUDENT OF THE DAY - Tuesday, October 12, 2010 - Ginny Sharma, Class of 1999. Ginny arrived at Marina in 1996. Always eager to learn, she was identified as Academically Enriched. She was well liked by all of the Marina Del Rey Staff. One staff member personally asked Barbara Pierson, the senior office clerk in the counseling office for Ginny to be her Teachers Assistant. Ginny continued her education at Venice High School graduating in 2003. Congratulations Ginny on being today's "Student Of The Day".

MDR STAFF MEMBER OF THE DAY - Before arriving at Marina Del Rey Junior High in the late 1970's, Diane Goyette was an accomplished stage actress and studied Drama and English for years. She continued to work in a similar field at Marina. This time instead of performing herself, she taught. Before the arrival of Ms. Mildred Rothman in the early 2000's, Ms. Goyette was the one and only Drama teacher. She retired in 2002 and currently resides in Northern California. Room 27 will always welcome Ms. Diane Goyette.

MDR FACT OF THE DAY - Monday, October 11, 2010 - Did you know that all of the rooms that were used as Elective rooms from 1960-2000 are now being used to place the magnet students in? Mr. Trombly's Graphic Arts Class is now a Magnet Sciene Class, Mr. Weeks Woodshop Class in now a 6th Grade Marine Science Academy Class, and Mrs. Morris' Clothing Class is now an English Magnet Class. The only remaining traditional Elective class is left is Art. Blame this terrible news on the LAUSD budget cuts. Here is a picture of Ms. Morris in happier times, instructing her students how to "Longstitch" in Room 7 during the late 1990's.

STUDENT OF THE DAY - Monday, October 11, 2010 - Roxana Juarez, Class of 1996. Roxana arrived at Marina in the Fall of 1994. Roxana was never your quintessential ideal student. She was a rebel. Identified as an ESL student in elementary school, Roxana remained in the ESL program up until her seventh grade year. It is unknown if Roxana Juarez graduated from high school, since there is no record stating she did. However, we do know that Roxana was a teen mother and now has a large family. Congratulations Roxana on being "Student Of The Day".

MDR STAFF MEMBER OF THE DAY - Corrina Martinez arrived at Marina Del Rey Middle School in the late 1980's. Marina Del Rey needed a tough Campus Aide to patol the hallways since the schools crime situation was at it's peak. Ms. Martinez helped cut down the crime rate and helped keep Marina a safe environment for over fifteen years. Corrina's health waned in the mid-2000's and was forced to leave MDR. Soon after, Ms. Martinez passed away from cancer in 2006. We will always remember Ms. Martinez and her infamous GOLFCART. We would like to thank her for making Marina Del Rey Middle School one of the best schools on the westside. Rest In Peace - Ms. Corrina Martinez
