August 2020 Update to Mortgage Foreclosure Relief Options The National Consumer Law Center has published a new update to their article on homeowner mortgage relief that explains who is covered by the new extended CARES Act foreclosure moratorium, describes recent changes as to mortgage forbearances and foreclosure procedures, sets out options homeowners can take after the forbearance period lapses, and provides advice for homeowners not covered by the CARES Act protections. T...he article includes links to guidelines extending the foreclosure moratorium at least to the end of the year for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA mortgage loans. The update also details a July, 2020 FHA guidance that updates the important issue of homeowner options after FHA mortgage forbearance expires. Further, the article summarizes federal and state forbearance programs, provides advice for homeowners not covered by these programs, and explains options for homeowners once a forbearance period ends. You may access the article from the home page of the Marin County Law Library’s website: https://www.marincountylawlibrary.org/.
