Settle changes in color from glazing. Can you spot the cooler purples and ultramarine blue in the elephants? Thinking about the cooler tones that reflect from water back on to the subject while painting this one. I painted intuitively, seeing a hint of purple on one side of the calf’s face, then red just under the bend in her leg. There will still be more glazing after this dries. Dreaming of the Sierras, I started this painting with the white peak, missing snow on the mountaintops. Memories of the granite cliffs and streams of Yosemite National Park visited my psyche. A peaceful quiet valley, I could almost hear the babbling stream and the sound of the wind through the tall trees. Last week, I unwrapped a 36 x 48 canvas, this will be the final size of the painting shown here.
