From Nov. 14, 2016. Struggles now are different than they were then. I’m now employed full-time and have reliable transportation, But since I wrote this, I was discovered to have an almost entirely inoperable brain tumor. I'm reminded recently how incredible it is to have this amazing experience as a human being here now. It's messy, complicated, tragic, horrifying, un-win-able. It's full of wonder, joy, softness , acceptance. It is inner and outer conflict. It is inner and ...outer harmony and peace. It is all of it. It boggles the mind how I can think and feel such wildly diverse things simultaneously. I think thats the point. To stretch my mind open even further and prove to myself that I AM still capable of yet more. To feel like I am a raw and inflamed nerve, and yet I must still bear more. To surrender to more. To stretch my heart open even more, to encompass the anger, the fear, the justified outrage along with the compassion, the love, and the joy. To feel the wonder and amazement and gratitude for my life and home and family and friends, and to feel heavy and heartbroken for my brothers and sisters who don't have the benefits I do, who struggle with things I can't begin to understand, while I struggle with things others can't understand or even see. I realize what a privilege it is to even be able to peruse these thoughts today. To be grateful is to recognize my privilege. Privilege is a tool I aspire to use to uplift rather than a weapon to wield in fear or anger. Today as a dear friend is losing her father, as my mother and uncles grieve the unexpected loss of their baby sister, as friends of friends recover from vicious unprovoked attacks, as beautiful friends struggle with depression and anxiety, as I again try to figure out how to get/keep my car running and pay my bills and care for my children with virtually no income- the universe steps in with support from friends, with gifts that help my keep my head above the rising tide of apathy trailing the ongoing fears and anxieties that seem as boundless as the ocean. #heartistrydesignstudio #singersongwriter #artistsofinstagram #marielsmuse See more
